Did you know that your carpet is full of fiber? Well it may not be fiber that can eaten by a human but there are some types of beetles that can’t get enough of eating the fibers in your carpets and even your clothes. Carpet beetles are a type of beetle that starts as a larvae egg that is usually laid on a food source such as an area rug or carpet. As the egg hatches, the larvae will feed on the carpet or area rug. This is when they can start to cause some serious damage to the rugs and carpet in your home. When the larvae changes into a beetle form, the beetle will head out in search of nectar and pollen.

Identifying and Diagnosing a Carpet Beetle Infestation

How do you know you have carpet beetles? The first sign is that you may start to notice small holes in pieces of clothes that you never noticed you snagged. You can also start to notice the bugs around the carpeted area and even on furniture. They are small and can hide pretty well deeper inside the carpet and furniture. The best way to determine if you do in fact have an infestation is to call a professional like Carpet Care 2000.

Ridding your Home of Damaging Carpet Beetles

How do you get rid of them? Carpet beetles are a hard bug to get rid of. They are able to feed on so many areas of your home that they can be tricky to find and take care of. There are a few things that you can do to help get rid of them if you have a problem. One of the things that you as a homeowner can do is to use your vacuum. If you take time to clean the carpets by vacuuming them really well, you can help to remove any larvae that are living on the carpets. You also can remove any items that may be badly infested. This could help to rid a large area of the carpet beetles.

Rug Stain Removal Tips

Carpet Care 2000 has prepared the following stain-removal tips that you can use when time is of the essence. Remember to blot; never rub at the stain and clean up spills as quickly as possible.
Tea or Coffee – Using a solution of 1 teaspoon liquid dish detergent, 1 quart of warm water, and ¼ teaspoon of white vinegar, apply to stain, rinse and blot – if stain remains contact your Carpet Care 2000 professional.
Soft drinks and alcohol – Using the cleaning solution above, apply to stain, rinse and blot dry.
Chewing gum – Pick off as much as you can, use a plastic bag filled with ice and blot to harden the gum, scrape the hardened gum with a spoon, vacuum and use a spot cleaner if needed.
Melted candle wax – Use the same treatment as for chewing gum, hardening the wax with ice cubes in a bag and then scraping. Dampen a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and blot to remove the remaining wax.
Fat-based stains – for foods such as margarine, butter or mayonnaise, use a dry-solvent spot carpet cleaner.
Pet feces or urine – Apply detergent solution (same as for tea or coffee stains) or a citrus-oxygen cleaner, rinse and blot until dry.
Tomato sauce – Sponge with cool water, dab with detergent solution(same as for tea or coffee stains) and rinse with a solution of 1 cup white vinegar and 2 cups of water and blot until dry.

The persistent drought in California is something we are very aware of and while we understand that just like a lawn needs water to survive and we each need to bathe and drink water to be healthy, carpets need to be cleaned. Many people try to save money by DIY and while DIY is much less expensive short term it may end up costing you a lot of money in the long run. The three most common and costly mistakes that people make are:
Over-shampooing – occurs when either too much shampoo is used or the carpet is not rinsed properly. The soap build is next to impossible to clean out, turning your carpet into a magnet for dirt and grime.
Over-wetting – occurs when too much water soaks into the bottom of the carpet and carpet padding. This increases the risk of mold and mildew growth.
Renting Unreliable Equipment – causing yellowing and staining, damaging your carpet fibers, re-soiling and overuse of detergents. Most rental units just don’t clean well and can actually cause carpet damage.

Hot Water Extraction Cleaning

What is the best way to clean carpet? Carpet Care 2000 recommends using hot water extraction. Hot water extraction is the only carpet cleaning method classified as deep cleaning. This method uses a fine but powerful spray of water used to force dirt out of the carpet before being sucked up by a vacuum slot immediately in front of the spray. Not only does this method thoroughly clean your carpeted flooring, it uses the least amount of water to deep clean and protect water sources. Your carpet care professional will typically use a truck mounted system to insure that dirty air and humidity are exhausted outside the home. Truck mounted systems are more powerful and do a better job of cleaning and drying your carpets quickly. Your Carpet Care 2000 trained technician will thoroughly inspect the area, spray an emulsifier or detergent and then use state of the art equipment to clean and vacuum until nearly all of the water is removed. Within one to two hours, your carpet will be completely dry, clean, vibrant and ready for use.

Carpet is a luxury that most homes enjoy and provides a relaxing and welcoming environment. Carpet comes in many different colors, textures and lengths; giving home owners exactly what they desire in flooring. Carpet is soft on the feet and creates another place to fall asleep on the living room floor. It also provides an excellent area for younger family members to crawl around and play on. When carpet is vacuumed regularly and cared for properly, it can have a long life. However, there are some instances that carpet requires a little more than just a vacuum job or a wet towel.

Carpet Spills and Stains

Carpet spills can be frustrating and always seem to happen at a very inconvenient time when you cannot give the spill the proper attention and treatment that it deserves. Wine spills, food spills, pet accidents and mud from shoes being ground into your carpet create stains that may seem almost impossible to get out. Although carpet provides the most comfortable environment than all other flooring, it also requires the most maintenance to keep it looking new and clean. Carpet that is not properly cared for and left untreated after a spill, will make your home look unclean and leave unsightly stains all over your floor.

Spot and Stain Treatment

If your carpet experiences a spill from a dark wine or dark fruit juice it is important to first blot the area with a dry towel. Never rub the stain, as this can make the spill sink even deeper into your carpet. Some home owners have found success in using white vinegar mixed with a generic dish soap. Spraying this mix on the area that is stained and waiting five to ten minutes for the solution to sink into your carpet will produce the best results. Blot the area with a clean, dry towel until the stain is removed.

Pet Stain and Odor Removal

Many pet owners get frustrated with the constant clean up required after their pet has an accident on the carpet. The terrible thing about a pet accident on your carpet is not only the stain it can leave, but also the smell. If not quickly attended to, a pet accident will soak into your carpet’s padding, which will allow a horrendous odor to be present in your carpet. The only way to completely remove the odor is to replace your carpets padding. This can be avoided by quickly cleaning up the accident right after it occurs.

Professional Carpet Stain Removal

Some carpet stains are almost impossible to remove on your own. Calling in a professional to do the work will result in clean carpet that is properly cared for and left looking like new. A professional carpet cleaning company will have industrial strength cleaners that you cannot find in stores and use equipment that is much stronger than those you can rent. Contact Carpet Care 2000 to get the stains and odors out of your carpet and leave it looking like new!

There are several misconceptions when it comes to carpet cleaning. One of them is that many people think that you should wait as long as possible; this is just not true! The built up dirt and grime are abrasive and can cut into the fiber of the carpet. This makes the fibers become frayed and spread apart. The dirt also can get stuck into the padding which is harder to get clean the longer it is stuck. Another thing is that people think that they only need to clean the most used and abused areas. It may seem to help the most in those areas, but cleaning all the carpet even in low traffic areas is good for the carpet and good for your family and pets in terms of health and allergens. The dust and dirt that naturally falls into the room will ultimately land on the carpet and need to be removed. Now that you know it is best to have all the carpets cleaned more often, what is the best cleaning strategy?

Drawbacks to Dry Chemical Carpet Cleaning

Dry Cleaning is one of the cleaning methods that industrial companies are moving towards. The technician will apply a shampoo foam to the carpet and allow it to settle on the fibers and dry up. After the shampoo has dried they will use suction to go back over and remove the residue that has been added. This is when the dirt that has settled into the carpet will get lifted off. The bad part is; imagine for a moment if you did this to your hair. You get in the shower, apply shampoo and get out. After your hair has dried you get it sucked out by the vacuum. Exactly, that sounds terrible. The thought that the shampoo could be fully removed after it has dried seems unrealistic. Some companies swear by this method and say that if it is done right it could leave the carpet cleaner then what you started with. Carpet Care 2000 uses this method only when there is a risk of slipping and falling like in nursing homes, when specifically requested and also in some industrial settings.

Superiority of Steam Carpet Cleaning

It’s a fact that most carpet manufacturers recommend steam carpet cleaning also known as hot water extraction. Steam Carpet Cleaning is a much better method and has been developed even more so over time into a wonderful process that uses steam from water and cleaner to take care of all the carpet stains; big and small. The steam cleaning option uses hot water to activate the cleaner and right after the vacuum extracts all of the dirty water and residue off the carpet. At Carpet Care 2000, we use a powerful truck mounted, industrial strength system and cleaning products that are safe for people and pets as well as environmentally friendly! Steam carpet cleaning may take longer to dry but it is a better way to get the carpet cleaned. Call Carpet Care 2000 for a professional cleaning today.

Experiencing any disaster that causes a serious amount of flood damage to your home can be overwhelming. Water damage from floods, rain fall, hail storms, snow and more severe natural disasters cost homeowners millions of dollars in repairs every year. Having wet carpet in your home immediately poses serious health risks to you and your family. Wet carpet creates a perfect environment for mold to grow within the walls of your home, and once mold has begun to grow it can be difficult to remove. When carpets have been heavily drenched with water, water extraction is the best way to get you headed in the right direction of proper water damage restoration.

Water Extraction

Before you begin water extraction, you must first determine if the water that has damaged your carpet was clean or not. If the water damage came from a place like an over flowed toilet or other contaminated water, then do not attempt to extract the water from your carpet. Instead, you need to immediately rip that carpet out and remove it from your home. This should be replaced with new carpet. For proper water extraction of clean water from your carpet, it is necessary to call in a professional. A professional carpet cleaning company has all of the essential equipment needed to completely extract the water that is soaking into your carpet.

Professional Carpet Cleaning

After the water has been professionally extracted from your carpet, it is time to now have your carpet cleaned. There are some people who believe that once the water has been extracted from their carpet that having the carpet cleaned is not necessary, this is not true. Although the water has been removed from your carpet, that does not mean that all the dirt and dust and mud that has settled onto your carpet is removed. A professional carpet cleaning service will remove all of the filth that has settled onto your carpet from the disaster that caused the damage in the first place. Any stains that were previous to the disaster will also be removed, leaving your carpet looking fresh and new.

Carpet Deodorizing

Following the water extraction and thorough carpet cleaning, now is a great time to deodorize your carpet. Many home owners will deodorize their carpet before the cause of the foul odor is removed. This is counterproductive as the foul smell will eventually return if all you do is simply mask it for a short amount of time. However, after completely removing the source of the smell, your carpet is ready to be properly deodorized. There are many products at the store that can help with this, but for the most effective methods, contact Carpet Care 2000 for all of your carpet service needs.

Carpet is great for flooring within your home because it provides a high level of comfort, makes your home feel inviting and if properly cared for can last a long time. The key to great carpet is great carpet care. There are many home owners who do not have their carpets cleaned as often as they should. There are multiple reasons to regularly have your carpets cleaned by a professional. Think of everyone and everything that comes in and out of your house on a daily basis. Dust, food, pet hair, insects and many other unwanted particles can easily settle into your carpet and if not ever removed will cause damage to your carpet and possible be a health risk to you and your family.

Carpet Dust Build Up

More than forty three million tons of dust falls over the United States every year. Indoor air usually contains twice as much dust as outside air does. That means that there are a million microscopic particles in one cubic inch of air. Think about the possibility of two thousand dust mites living happily on one ounce of carpet dust. Carpet can act as a dust sponge if not properly cared for. No one wants dust build up in their home.

Long Living Bacteria on Carpet

If you’ve ever dropped a snack or piece of food on the floor and quickly picked it up and pooped it into your mouth then you are a true believer of the famous “five second rule”. Unfortunately, the five second rule is a false truth. Bacteria has the ability to live up to four weeks on carpet. Germs are immediately transferred to the food that comes into contact with the food. These germs are some of the most harmful, like Salmonella typhimurium, Campylobacter and Salmonella enteritis, which is a very nasty bacterium that causes severe diarrhea and vomiting.

Outside Contaminants Trapped in your Carpet

The dirt and dust your family tracks into your home from outside can slowly build up. Each year several pounds of soil can accumulate in and under carpet. Not only does your family bring in dirt and soil, but they also shed about one and a half million skin flakes an hour, most of which will become imbedded into your carpet. Bed bugs can survive in carpet fibers and successfully hide due to their small size. They will come out of the carpet at night to feed on a sleeping host until they have fully engorged themselves.

Professional Carpet Care

Although these facts can cause you to have disturbing thoughts, there is a simple and easy solution to keep your carpet from experiencing any of these situations. Calling in a professional carpet cleaner is your best bet to keep your carpet clean and bacteria free. Carpet Care 2000 will properly clean your home’s carpet and keep you worry free.
