When you are caring for your home, one of the areas that seem to take the most wear and tear are the carpets. They are walked on by everyone that is coming and going and many times those people drop items. They can also walk in substances stuck to their shoes that can be left behind on the carpet. You may also have some little ones that eat and walk around with their snacks and food. These sticky messes can end up stuck in the fibers of the carpet.

If you find that you have a sticky mess on the carpet, Carpet Care 2000 has a list of ideas that you can try to remove the sticky residue.

Using Ice Cubes to Remove Gum and Sticky Candy from Carpet: If you find a piece of chewed up gum or a sticky fruit snack on the carpet that is stuck to the fibers, you can use ice to try and remove it. Go to the freezer and get a bag full of ice cubes and seal it tight. Let the ice set on the sticky gum or snack until it is hard to the touch. This can take several minutes so be patient because the harder it is, the easier it will be to remove. Take a tool like a butter knife to scrape away the hardened substance. It will break off rather than pull and get stickier. This will remove the majority of the mess with not too much fuss.
Use Peanut Butter to Remove Old Gum or Sticky Candy from Carpet: If you have ever had a child wake up and felt a wad of gum in their hair the first thing most moms run for is the peanut butter. You get a big scoop and start working it into the hair and slowly it breaks up the gum and it can now be combed out. The same concept works on your carpets too. You can use peanut butter, olive oil or any other oil to get the gum or sticky candy to break down. Be sure to color test the oil first in an inconspicuous area of the carpet. A huge negative to this method is you have to follow up the gum removal with carpet cleaning to be sure that the oil is fully removed from the carpet as well.

If you have found gum or sticky candy stuck in the fibers of your carpet give Carpet Care 2000 a call in Tracy, Livermore, San Ramon, Danville, Dublin, Ripon, Mountain House & Danville California and schedule an appointment for stain removal and carpet cleaning.

Redecorating or rearranging a room can give it a face-lift without too much fuss. But have you ever noticed moving those pieces of furniture around the room leave carpet dents or divots in their wake? They are obnoxious little eye sores, that seem to take weeks, sometimes months to relax; if they ever relax on their own. When company comes to visit, it always seems that they are intrigued with the new arrangement for a minute, but somehow always seem to find those little dents. But instead of listening to the tales you have, they seem completely focused on that little dent, rarely look you in the eye and don’t seem to be listening, but trying to work out how to get rid of those nuisances for you.

Fear not, Carpet Care 2000 would like to offer a solution on getting rid of those pesky carpet dents so you can have everyone’s full attention.

Method #1 – Remove Carpet Dents with Ice Cubes

(This method is recommended and most common as it is the gentlest way to remove carpet dents, but does take the longest to execute.)
– Move the furniture out of the way to begin your quest.
– Drop an ice cube or cubes along the length and width of the dent.
– Allow the ice cubes to melt. As they do, the carpet fibers will begin to expand and relax.
– Allow the moisture to soak in overnight.
– Check the saturation in the morning, if it is still excessively damp, blot up the excess liquid.
– Use a fork to gently and cautiously loosen and fluff the carpet fibers back to their original design.
– If the dent is extremely stubborn and persists, repeat the steps. If time is of the essence, try method #2 or #3.

Method #2 – Raising Carpet Pile with Blow Dryer

– Move furniture out of the way.
– Spray dents down generously with water bottle. The carpet does not need to be soaked, but adequately wetted.
– Armed with a blow dryer and a fork, gently and cautiously; fluff the fibers back into place.
– Repeat if dents persists or try a different method.

Method #3 – Removing Carpet Dents with Steam

– Remove the furniture out of the way.
– Place a clean, dampened cloth on top of the dent.
– On medium heat, hover an iron just 3-4 inches above the cloth and allow the heat and steam to disperse for 30-60 seconds.
– Avoid pacing iron directly on top of carpet, as this could damage the fibers by either burning or melting them depending on manufacturing and materials.
– Repeat if necessary, or try a new method.
After removing furniture, and replacing it in their new places, hire Carpet Care 2000 to give your carpet a deep and thorough cleaning. Not only will your carpet be fresh and bright, but more than likely the dents and divots will be loosened and easier fluffed if not already done so.

The condition of your carpet can really make a lasting impression on the overall appearance of your home. In many ways, carpets can add to the design of a room as well as serving its primary function. Taking the proper time to fully maintain your carpet is key to extending its life. And that maintenance includes removing stains as they occur.

Carpet Care 2000 would like to offer some ink stain removal tips for your carpet and sofa upholstery.

Ink stains can be extremely stubborn and difficult to remove. With that in mind, we included a few methods on trying to remove the ink blemish off your carpet. If after attempting these methods the stain remains, hiring a professional might need to be considered.

Method #1 – How to Remove Ink Stains from Carpet with Rubbing Alcohol

1. As soon as possible, reach for a clean cloth or cotton swab, and apply alcohol to your weapon of choice. A cloth is better as you have more room to work with. Using a corner at a time, gently blot up the stain. DO NOT SCRUB, doing so will only push the stain in. If necessary, use clean areas of the cloth and repeat the blotting procedure.
2. Be sure you are comfortable as this method takes time and patience. Alcohol cold take up to 30 minutes to eat away at the ink stain. Continue blotting the stain with an alcohol treated cloth.
3. After the 30 minutes, rinse the tarnished area using 1/4 cup of white vinegar, and 1 quart of warm water. Sponge on the mixture with a clean cloth, and continue blotting.
4. If the stain has successfully been lifted, spray the area down with a spray bottle and clear water. Be sure to use a towel to dry the area as much as you can.
5. If stain persists, apply shaving cream onto the ink and allow it to set 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes is up, scoop up the remnants. Rinse with the vinegar and water solution, and then rinse with plain water.
6. Be sure the area is now thoroughly dried. Once dried, vacuum the spot to relax the carpet fibers.

Method #2 – Uisng WD-40 to Remove Stains from Carpet

1. Apply your WD-40 lubricant onto the ink stain and allow it to set for 15 minutes after you have blotted the bulk of the ink with a white paper towel.
2. Combine 1/2 tsp with liquid dish soap into a liter of warm water. Sponge the mixture onto the area using the blotting technique.
3. Remove the soapy residue with plain water. Spray clear water onto the area and blot with a clean cloth.
4. Towel dry the once stained carpet. Air dry the remaining moisture and vacuum once drying has been completed.

Method #3 – How to Remove Ink Stains from Carpet with Cleaning Detergent, Vinegar & Ammonia Cocktail

1. Combine the following: 1 cup warm water and 1 tsp liquid dish soap. Using a spray bottle, generously apply mixture, but do not over wet the carpet.
2. Blot the stain with a clean, white cloth.
3. Now mix together 1/2 cup warm water with 1 TBS of ammonia. Spray the next layer onto the ink stain. Again be liberal but do not soak the area. Blot the stain with another clean, white cloth.
4. Now create the vinegar solution by mixing together equal parts warm water and white vinegar. Apply cleanser and blot the remaining stain.
5. Re-apply the detergent solution to wash away the vinegar and ammonia. Be sure to again merely blot at the moisture.
6. Rinse with clean, pure water and blot up the remain remnants.
7. Place a dry towel down, and set down some kind of weight on top. Allow to dry over night. Once dried, vacuum the carpet to relax and loosen the fibers.
Note: Always conduct a patch test in an inconspicuous area to ensure any detergent or remedy you are utilizing will not compromise the condition or color of your carpet.

Keeping your tile flooring clean and looking like new can be a challenge, especially if you have little children running around and family pets as well. Spills and accidents happen all of the time; unfortunately we are not always aware that they have occurred. The most vulnerable area of your tile flooring is the grout. Grout can easily become stained and these stains can be extremely difficult to remove on your own. Some spills and accidents are much more potent than others and if you do not act immediately after the spill or accident occurs, you will be left with unsightly stained grout.

Grape Juice Stain; How to Make Grout Look New Again

One of the biggest grout offenders is red wine or grape juice. If your tile has a lighter colored grout, then these two liquids can do quite a number on the grout that is between your tiles. The pigment of a dark wine or grape juice is so potent that if it is not immediately dealt with it will quickly seep into the grout of your tile and become almost impossible to remove. When your grout is dirty, it makes the rest of your floor look dirty, no matter how hard your scrub or how shiny your tile is.

How to Clean Pet Urine from Grout

Another accident that destroys the cleanliness of your grout is pet accidents. Pet urine can be extremely potent and if not cleaned quickly will leave a dark yellow or orange stain in your grout lines. Most indoor pets are the culprit of these accidents, as they are left home alone and the homeowner doesn’t stumble across the accident until it has been sitting on the floor for quite some time. During that time the pet urine has penetrated the grout and will be extremely difficult to remove.

Many homeowners attempt to clean their grout on their own and in most cases make an even bigger problem by using the wrong type of cleaner. When the wrong type of cleaner is used, it can not only damage your grout, but it can also change the color of the surrounding tile, now creating an even larger area that is discolored. The best way to keep your grout clean is to hire the services of a professional floor cleaning company. Carpet Care 2000 specializes in cleaning grout and making your tile floor look like new. Not only will we clean your grout, but we will seal it as well, preventing other spills and accidents from setting in. Whether you just replaced your carpet, moved into a new home with newly laid carpets, or are just over protective of your current carpet; you want that investment to last as long as possible. Keeping your carpets well preserved, and keeping them beautiful, clean and fresh isn’t too hard for the dedicated.

Carpet Care 2000 would like to share some of the secrets in keeping your carpets youthful and pristine.

1. Carpet Padding. If you are having new carpet laid down, invest in a top quality carpet padding. A carpet padding doesn’t only offer thickness and comfort to the bare feet, but it will help deter the nature wear and tear; especially in high traffic areas and stairs. Do your homework in searching for the best carpet padding and warranties they include.
2. Interior & Exterior Walk Off Mats. You will want to place walk off mats for every entry point in your home. Be sure the exterior mats are strong and durable enough to withstand the elements. They will also need to be absorbent enough to collect moisture, but rough enough to knock off mud. Interior mats at every door should be small and wash machine safe. Having a rubber underside to better protect the carpet from creeping is a great feature. Both exterior and interior walk-off mats should be cleaned regularly. If possible, have the home occupants avoid wearing shoes constantly.
3. Vacuum your Carpets Regularly. It is imperative to carpet maintenance that you vacuum often. It is recommended to vacuum a minimum of twice a week, more if children or pets are in the home, and once a week for rooms that get little traffic. Keeping the dust, dirt and other debris lifted off of carpet, prevents it from traveling deep into the fibers. Filth that builds up, makes carpet look dingy and prematurely aged. If you notice down the line that carpet fibers have frayed or become loose, do not pull. Simply trim off the stringy tidbits.
4. Vacuum Cleaner Maintenance & Cleaning. Just as you maintain appliances, vehicles, and other such home commodities, your vacuum needs to be maintained as well. Make sure the bag or container is cleaned, brushes are rotating and are not getting entangled by hair. Every so often, clean the moving parts to ensure efficiency.
5. Professional Deep Steam Carpet Cleaning. Whether your carpets look dirty or not, you should still hire a professional deep carpet cleaner once a year to get the rooted dirt extracted. Where you can do much to prevent an abundance of dirt and debris from seeding deeply, you can’t prevent it all. Get a deep cleaning annually to keep carpets vibrant. More so if stubborn stains you can’t remove manifest.
6. Stain Resistant Carpet Treatment. A lot of the newer carpets are featured with a pre-treatment anti-staining solution. However, after every professional deep cleaning, be sure to have your professional carpet cleaner give your carpet another treatment to help keep stains at a minimum.
7. Spot clean Carpet. Whenever an accidental spill occurs, it is crucial to tend to the stain as quickly as possible. A stain that is allowed to set in, can come to near impossible to remove, if it is even removable at all. Be sure to be diligent and remove any stains as quickly as possible.
8. Move & Rotate Heavy Furniture. Carpet can become dented or crushed under the weight of furniture and traffic patterns will arise around the furniture causing the wear and tear. Rotating your furniture can keep the crushing to minimum and regulate the traffic patterns. Make sure the furniture has a felt padding or something similar to protect the carpet from furniture moving and placing.
9. Reduce Sunlight on Carpet. In rooms where the sunlight is plentiful, it a wise move to keep the direct sunlight from your carpets. For a greater portion of the day, keep windows shielded with blinds or curtains. Too much sunlight can fade carpet shades, or even cause excessive drying; leaving your carpet vulnerable to daily life.

When you have a dog or a cat in your home you know that you are going to come across some accidents sooner or later. These can be urine, feces or even vomit. All of these types of accidents can cause not only stains to the carpets and rugs but they can leave a lasting odor as well. Puppies are the biggest culprit when it comes to accidents on the carpet. It can take some time before they learn that when they need to go to the bathroom, they need to use the outdoors or a potty pad that has been set up for them. While you are waiting for them to learn you may be using your time to clean these small spots as they happen.

It can be very time consuming but Carpet Care 2000 has the best steps to use to remove pet stains and odor from your carpets.

Start Removing the Stain and Odor with a Pre-soak:

This first step will either lift up the fresh accident and the excess liquid or it will help to pre-soak the existing accident so that it can be cleaned up. Start with a fresh wash rag or towel and lay it over the area where the accident has occurred. Then you want to lay a heavy object on the spot so that the pressure will help pull the stain towards the towel. If you are working in a spot that you didn’t notice right away, you need to first soak the rag with warm water and then lay it on the spot. Then lay a piece of plastic to protect the heavy object that will go on next. This will re-wet the stain and allow it to be treated.

Use a Pre-Tested Cleaner to Help Remove the Odor and Stain from your Carpets:

Pets are not the only thing that will leave a stain on the carpet, so this is the time that you will want to get out your store bought carpet cleaner that hopefully has already been tested on your carpet. Use it to treat the area as the directions on the bottle as indicated; always working from the outside of the stain to the inside. This is the step that will help with discoloration and odor.

Do a Final Soak On the Carpet:

This is the step that you want to basically repeat the first step where you soaked a rag and used a heavy object to pull out the stain and moisture.

The carpet in your school can be a breeding ground for these types of materials if it is not regularly cleaned.

Health Hazards of Dirty Carpet

When your children attend school in an environment that is unclean day after day, their immune systems can become weak. The human body fights daily to keep itself in perfect working condition, but when dirty carpets at school provide a continuous battle against the immune system of a student, this can cause susceptibility to a handful of diseases that are floating around. Keeping the carpet on your school regularly cleaned is a great way to protect the health of your students.

What DOES Carpet Mold Look Like?

One serious health concern that can result from dirty carpet in a school is mold. Mold is often linked to asthma attacks, and this can become a serious issue to deal with for students who are already suffering from respiratory issues. Mold in carpet will attract allergens and bacteria and these can be ingested by students who are exposed to the dirty carpet. When bacteria living on the spores of the mold become inhaled, students can then go through symptoms that seem like the flu or a cold. Most of the times this will be accepted as just something that is going around and will eventually come to an end. However, if the carpet is the reason for this then it will become an never ending circle of sickness for the students.

Tile flooring is one of the most popular choices when home owners are deciding which floor option is best to install into their home. Tile comes in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors and textures that will add beauty to any home and go along with any décor that you already have. Not only is tile very affordable when compared to other types of flooring, but it is also extremely durable. Ceramic tiles are also very low maintenance as long as you take the proper steps in caring for your tile floor. Tile is made up of natural fibers that are shaped and fired in a kiln at very high temperatures. This process creates the tile’s extreme amount of durability and resiliency.

Cleaning Ceramic Tile & Grout Floors

If you have made the choice of installing tile in your home, then you will be extremely happy with the way it makes a room look complete. While tile is a low maintenance type of flooring, it still requires a specific amount of care and cleaning. One of the most important steps to take in caring for your tile floor is to make sure that dust, dirt, grime and other spills do not have a chance to settle into the surface of your tile and get comfortable. The longer diet, debris and other materials sit on the surface of your tile floor, the better chance they have of leaving behind a permanent stain.

Best Way to Clean Tile Floors & Grout

Regular day to day foot traffic, family pets and small children can quickly produce a respectable layer of dust and other materials on your tile floor. Sweeping and vacuuming every day are both great ways to ensure that your tile floor is well taken care of. When you remove that layer of dust every day, you lessen the chances of a stain occurring and you lengthen the life of your tile floor as well. Take the extra 10 to 15 minutes out of your day to properly sweep and vacuum your tile floors, this will make a world of difference.

How to Clean Stains from Floor Tiles

When spills or accidents do happen, be sure to clean them up immediately. A spill of fruit juice or an accident from the family pet will immediately begin to seep into your ceramic tile floor and if not attended to quickly, can leave an unsightly stain behind. These types of spills and accidents can be difficult to remove on your own if a stain has settled in. The best way to keep your tile floors clean and looking like new is to call in a professional to get the job done right. Save yourself a great deal of time and energy by calling Carpet Care 2000 to clean your tile floors today.

It seems that disaster will always strike every so often in one form or another. Whether you experience a vehicle that broke down and no matter the methods of getting it fixed, it never happens, or perhaps the heater or A/C unit went out in the height of its season, or even a pipe decided to burst, causing a flood in your home.

Carpet Care 2000 would like to share some tips and methods on removing the standing water and cleaning your carpet before mold is born.

If you allow water damage to fester, not only can mold develop, but you are also permitting the water to influence structure causing damage, and that can be detrimental. Tend to the water as soon as it happens.
1. Move all the furniture and possessions out of the room for easier clean up and dry off any furniture that came into contact with water. If possible, take the dampened furniture outside to allow the sunshine to help dry it quickly.
2. Cleanup depends on the amount of flooding that occurred. If there are inches of water in need of removal, utilizing a wet vacuum might be the first priority. If you do not own one, many home improvement stores offer them for rent or purchase. Getting the bulk of the water extracted is imperative and should be done quickly.
3. For the remaining water, or if the mess only saturated your carpet, throw some dry towels down, and commence to walking on top of them until they have sopped up as much water as they can, and repeat until as much water as possible have been removed. Once carpet is dried, it is a good idea to carefully pry up your carpet to make sure the padding didn’t get soaked as well.
4. Go back to your wet vacuum (remember most home vacuums are not equipped to suck up water and will be destroyed if attempt to do so) and use your wet vacuum to meticulously go over the carpet to suck up any remaining moisture.
5. After no more water is being sucked up, flip the ceiling fan on, and if applicable; put out humidifiers, area fans, open windows and even use blow dryers to dry out remaining moisture.
6. If the padding did get compromised, carefully peel back the carpet, leaving the padding safely secure to the ground, and repeat the necessary steps to dry the padding as well as the bottom layer of your carpet.
