When it comes to preserving the natural beauty of your carpet, removing stains is a must. Blemishes can quickly scar the surfaces of carpets, and if left unattended, stains will start to multiply. In keeping with the pristine appearance of your carpet, regular maintenance is needed and stains need to be lifted out.

Carpet Care 2000 relates some cleaning tips and advice when it comes to carpet stain removal.

Treat carpet stains ASAP. When an accident occurs, tend to it immediately. The longer a stain stands, will give it time to set, resulting in more difficulty to remove the stain.
Blot the carpet stain. With most stains, as a general rule, always blot the stain. Instincts, and often frustration, will tempt you to rub and scrub vigorously. When stains get treated this way, the stain actually gets pushed deeper into the fibers, and spreads it out more so. Blotting with mild, moderate or excessive force is all that you should do when lifting a stain out.
Keep dabbing cloths plain. The paper towels, cloths, or towels you use to blot up stains need to be white and free of prints. If using anything but white, you can subsequently transfer the print design or dye from the cleaning fabric onto the carpet, resulting in a much or troublesome stain.
Avoid the heat. In most cases, using hot temperature water will cause the stain set, becoming near or impossible to remove. Stick with cool water or lukewarm water to contribute to stain removal.
Patch test carpet cleaning solutions. Never skip the patch test. Whether you use commercial premade cleaning products, or use homemade remedy solutions, always conduct your patch test in an inconspicuous area. If the chemical compounds, or natural ingredients compromises the carpets color or overall integrity, it is best to keep it small, contained and out in plain sight.
Stay away from over saturation of carpet. Impulse might make you believe more is better. Not so when it comes to liquids and your carpet. Over saturating your carpet could leave to damage and mold. If a stubborn stain requires repeat attempts, blot the excess moister in between applications to avoid the dangers of over saturation.
Dry carpet stains. It is best to dry the area to the best of your ability once the stain has been lifted. Blot it with dry towels; flip on ceiling fans and floor fans, open windows, or whatever it takes to ensure thorough, quick drying. If the area is still fairly damp, try applying towel with heavy weights on top to help the absorption.
Vacuum carpet. Many people skip the vacuuming step after the area has been treated, and well dried. Vacuuming the area can help the fibers rebound to the original shape and suck away any lingering residue.

Should I Repair or Replace My Carpet?

Depending on the type of carpet and the quality of carpet pad installed in your home you can expect your carpet to last anywhere from 10-15 years. If you have had your carpet for quite a few years and are debating on `whether or not to replace it, there are a few things to consider. Carpet Care 2000 can help you in deciding whether to repair or replace your carpet.

How Long have You had This Carpet?

This may seem like an obvious question, but it is often overlooked. It is recommended to not keep carpets longer than 20 years. When carpet is kept longer, it can decrease your indoor air quality. Not only do many carpets start to break down after this amount of time, but carpets collect a certain amount of dirt that a vacuum simply cannot reach. This can still be the case in an area that receives a low amount of traffic.

Are Your Carpets Ripped, Torn or Balding

If you find a tear in your carpet, you may think this is grounds for replacement. A tear can actually be repaired fairly easily. If it is a small tear or you have minor damage to an area, like a cigarette burn, Carpet Care 2000 can fix that without replacement. If you are dealing with a larger tear, then you run the risk of other tears surfacing down the road and you might be better off replacing the carpet. High traffic areas on your carpet can, over the years, start to look quite worn and actually form bare spots or balding. This is an obvious reason to start considering carpet replacement. If your carpets are looking worn and are not showing sign of balding yet, a professional carpet technician can occasionally put the spring back into your carpet with a good cleaning.

How to Remove Odors from Carpet

Does your carpet have an odor that won’t seem to dissipate no matter how many times you clean it? This includes pet urine, moldy and musty smells. If this is the case, you may want to replace. When an animal repeatedly urinates on your carpet it soaks deep into the pad and the only way to get rid of it is to replace it all together. Getting your carpets professionally cleaned regularly can help to avoid this.

Water Damage to Carpet & Padding

If you have had any water damage in the past, there is a risk of mold. It can often carry with it a musty, dank odor. Once water settles into the carpet pad, it is likely mold will follow. If you are having an allergy flare up, this is also a sign that you may be dealing with mold. Once mold is present it can prove difficult to remove and often times, requires replacing your carpet and pad.

Old, Relentless Stains on Carpet

We have all had those stains that seem to reappear not long after we get our carpets cleaned. Completely avoiding stains in carper isn’t realistic, but most stains can be removed when you have your carpets professionally cleaned. At times though, there are stains that can’t be removed no matter how many times you have them cleaned. Even when the carpet is cleaned with the best equipment available. If there is major staining throughout your carpet, it may be time to consider replacement.

Having carpet in your home can enhance your living space by adding beauty and style. Carpet gives you a comfortable place to sit, play or work and also gives a room an overall warmer feeling. People have a lot of opinions about carpet care. It’s time to clear up some myths associated with carpet cleaning!

My Carpet Doesn’t Look Dirty so I Don’t Need Professional Carpet Cleaning?

Many people think if their carpet doesn’t look dirty it doesn’t need to be cleaned. This is not true. Some carpets are good at hiding dirt but this doesn’t mean that there isn’t any to be removed. All dirt acts like an abrasive which can cause the loss of fiber protection and color and cause early wear. You may end up replacing it too soon and wasting your money. You may also hear people say that your carpet will get dirty faster after you clean it. While this may have been true in the past, it is not today. Professional carpet cleaners use products that don’t leave dirt attracting residue behind. It is the dirt residue that attracts the soil.

Over-Vacuuming Carpets is Bad?

You may also hear the claim that steam cleaning your carpet will ruin it. This isn’t true. The best way to clean your carpet is through steam cleaning which is with the use of hot water and extraction. Leading carpet cleaners and carpet manufacturers worldwide recommend steam cleaning. You may think using carpet deodorizers will keep your carpet fresh. This also is a myth. These scented powders can harm your carpet and add unnecessary dust to your home. Trying to vacuum all that up is almost impossible. It is also untrue that over vacuuming your carpet can harm it, so vacuum away! The best ways to keep your carpets clean is to vacuum entrances and high traffic areas more often, removing your shoes when indoors, and treating spots immediately so they don’t set and become permanent. Try to avoid chemicals and start with cold water and baking soda first to remove stains.

I Can Save Money on DIY Carpet Cleaning VS Hiring a Professional Carpet Cleaner

People say that carpet cleaning is expensive so they choose to do it less often. Waiting too long between cleanings can cause your home or office to be unhealthy. Clean carpets mean healthy indoor air quality. Indoor air quality can be eight to ten times worse than outside. Having your own machine means that you can do it yourself. You can definitely do it yourself but you will end up putting more water into your carpet that won’t get removed. DIY carpet cleaning results in a longer drying time and creates a perfect breeding ground for mildew, mold, and bacteria to grow. Bringing in a professional for mold is much more expensive than a carpet cleaning! Professional carpet cleaners like Carpet Care 2000 have powerful truck mounted extraction.

If you have had a pen break in your home and seen the ink drain out onto your carpet you probably were sent into a severe panic. Most people have no idea what to do. If you start to rub at it the stain will spread out, if you leave it there the stain will set in. Some people believe there is no hope and the only choice that you have is to move a piece of furniture or rug over the spot. Fortunately, there is hope … and a few tricks that you can try to remove the stain yourself. These tricks are not always going to work but you can give them a try. The best way to ensure that a stain is removed is to contact a carpet cleaning company to treat the area and clean the rest of the carpets and rugs too.

Carpet Care 2000 has a few tricks you can try to remove an ink stain from your carpet or rug.

WD- 40 Carpet Stain Removal: If you want to try this process, you can go to a store like a super center or car repair store to pick up a can of WD-40. This is a product that is used as a lubricant but has been proven to help in stain removal as well. You want to use the spray carefully to be sure to not get it on the areas that are not stained! Spray the WD-40 on the spot and you will need to allow it to sit up for about 15 – 20 minutes. After this you will need to use some soapy water to pick up the stain and the WD-40 at the same time. Always be sure to use a nice clean cloth and dab or blot never rub the affected area.
Hairspray Can Help Get Rid of Ink Stains on Carpet: If you want to try a different approach to removing the ink stain you can try using your everyday hairspray. Take the hairspray and spray it on the stain and allow it to sit for only about two minutes. Once you have allowed it to sit you can use soapy water to saturate the area and blot the area really well. This should get the stain out of the carpet and take the hairspray out too.
Rubbing Alcohol Can Pull Ink Stains Out of Carpet: You can try this method which is a little bit easier and will not need to be sprayed on the area. You want to soak the edge of your clean cloth with rubbing alcohol and dab at the ink spot. The alcohol will help to remove the ink and pull it into the cloth. Make sure you use a clean spot on the rag often to ensure you are not spreading the ink stain out.

With Mother’s Day being the center of May’s focus, often the little ones get their creative juices flowing, and they present you with one of your “mommy treasures”. The glitter glue is a perfect touch adding just enough dazzle. But after the love and affection and the pats on the back for a remarkable gift, you find the location where the designing and labor took place. Dried glitter glue is now mocking you with the blemishes adorning your carpets. But, not allowing a few stains to kill the love in the air, you find out how to deal with the issue. First of all, good job mom for not losing your mind and containing your annoyance at the new mess!

Carpet Care 2000 would like share some tips on removing the dried glitter glue stain from your carpet.

What you need:
– Medium scrub brush
– Water (boiled)
– Towel
– Cleaning cloths (white)
– Preferred carpet cleaner or 8oz warm water with 1 tsp mild dish soap combined well in a spray bottle.

Carpet Cleaning Stain Removal Steps:

1. While your water is boiling, spray your carpet cleaner (commercial or homemade) liberally to the area in question. Do not over saturate. Allow the detergent to set for 5 minutes or so.
2. Lightly pour the boiled water onto the glitter glue, but only do little splashes at a time, again, do not over saturate.
3. With your scrub brush, use circular motions to gently work out the glue. Avoid scrubbing vigorously.
4. Repeat step 2 and 3 until the glue has been worked up.
5. Using your wash cloths, blot the stain periodically to lift away glue and contain the water.
6. Once glue is removed, apply cleaner to the spot, and blot with a clean, dry cloth.
7. Using a dry towel, sop up additional water as best you can. To help expedite drying, a space heater, ceiling fan or floor fan can help.
8. If glue is gone, but there is some lingering glitter, wrap duct tape around your hand and use the sticky adhesive to lift away the sparkles.
9. Vacuum to ensure glitter is removed and carpet fibers are relaxed. Glitter can be hard to suck away; there could be some lingering flakes. Vacuum and/or use the sticky tape to get it up.

Carpet Cleaning Spot Stain Removal Notes:

– Always test homemade products or commercial carpet formulas in an inconspicuous area to ensure the solution will not compromise carpet fibers or the color.
– Do not scrub out any stain with too much force; doing so can push stains out and down, giving you more mess and more difficulty.
– Avoid using printed or dyed paper towels, cloths or towels. Doing so can transfer the dyes or print to the carpet, giving you a more troublesome stain to contend with.
– If there are dyes in any satin, avoid using hot water as it could set the dyes in your carpet.

When the carpet in your office is clean and inviting it is a reflection on you as the owner. People will assume that you run an efficient business which means they will come back and refer you to others. Not only does your office look better but it’s also healthier. The appearance and cleanliness of your carpet is not only beneficial to customers but employees also.

Benefits of Steam Carpet Cleaning

Carpet gets dirty when foot traffic wears it down and brings in dirt. Some business owners may think that if they don’t have a lot of foot traffic there is no need for concern. This is not true. Vacuuming alone is not enough. The debris that doesn’t get picked up just sinks down in to the carpet further. Employees notice if the environment they work in is clean. If the place they work in is clean it may cause them to keep their own area cleaner improving the appearance of your business further.

Dirty Carpet Health Hazards

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that vacuuming does nothing to remove the bacteria that is in the carpet. This means that when liquids come into contact with our carpets the growth of mold and bacteria can occur. Viruses such as the Norovirus thrives in carpet. This is the nasty one that causes the stomach flu. These health issues not only affect your employees but your customers as well. Odors and allergens are also things to take into consideration with your carpets. Sometimes air fresheners or candles are used to get rid of odors. This is only masking the problem and is a short term solution to eliminate the smells. Removing allergens in your carpets will also make your office healthier for your employees and customers by improving air quality.

Reasons to Hire a Professional Carpet Cleaner

You may consider doing this task on your own. There are portable machines you can rent but often times they are used over and over making them less effective. Usually the chemicals used are harsh and can leave an unpleasant smell. These chemicals can also cause more stains to occur afterwards because they leave a residue. A professional carpet cleaner like Carpet Care 2000 utilizes a powerful truck mounted carpet cleaner that extracts almost all the the soil, dirt and allergens as well as the chemicals and water used during the cleaning process. A general rule of thumb for cleaning commercial carpets is every 6 to 18 months. If your business has heavy traffic then every 6 months is ideal. Those businesses with lighter traffic should be good with once a year to 18 months. Every case is different but staying on top of the buildup of mold, mildew, dirt, and other problems is key.

Many of them don’t take very much effort at all and can really make a big difference in the longevity of your carpets.

Carpet Care 2000 Lists Some Simple Ways to Keep Your Carpets Looking like New

Take Shoes Off Before Entering Your House – Taking your shoes off upon entering your home is a simple way to decrease the amount of dirt, mud, and other substances that can be tracked in from the bottom of your shoes. This will help those high traffic areas stay cleaner and help with the normal wear and tear of your carpets.
Reduce Direct Sunlight on Carpet – Certain areas of your carpet may get a substantial amount of sunlight during the day. You may notice over time, that those areas start to look faded from being exposed to too much sunlight. Simply installing curtains or blinds can help decrease the amount of sun exposure and help those carpets stay vibrant in color.
Move Furniture Around on Carpet – Moving furniture around in your room not only changes the look of your room without making big changes, it also changes the traffic patterns in your room. This will help give some of those high traffic areas in your room a rest and avoid excessive pile crushing. It can also be helpful to use carpet protectors under heavy furniture to help distribute the weight evenly on your carpet.
How to Move Heavy Furniture on Carpet – When you get the urge to rearrange the furniture in your room, make sure you aren’t dragging your heavy furniture across the carpet. Put a tarp or some sort of cloth underneath the furniture before moving it, or have enough help to pick it all the way up off the ground to move it. This will help you avoid getting snags in your carpets.
Avoid Leaving Pets Unattended – By not leaving your pets unattended or locked in a room for a long period of time, you avoid the risk of them damaging your carpets. Pet urine and the smell associated with it, can be difficult to get out of carpet. Pets can also sometimes use their paws to dig at the carpet and end up tearing and snagging your carpet, causing quite a bit of damage in the process.
Get Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned – Have your carpets professionally cleaned often, especially if you have pets and children. Most people wait until their carpet is visibly dirty and stained before they call a carpet cleaner. Getting your carpets cleaned before stains set in can really help prolong the life of your carpet.

If you take the greatest care of your carpet you are sure to still come across trouble with spills and stains such as gum occasionally! Chewed up gum is a hard item to get off your carpet and just about any other surface that chewed up gum is stuck to. Gum is sticky and will attach to anything; especially carpet that has fibers that will give a lot of surface area to attach to. The biggest trouble is when gum is dropped on the ground and then it is stepped on. That will then ground the gum into the carpet fibers and make it extremely difficult to remove. Hiring a professional is a great way to make sure many of the stains including gum is removed from the carpet. Carpet Care 2000 can also treat the entire carpet and leave it clean and looking its best.

Carpet Care 2000 lists a few ways that you can remove chewing gum from your carpets and rugs

You Can Use A Bag Of Ice to Remove Gum from Carpet: This may seem like an odd way to get rid of gum on your carpet but it does work. Once you notice that there is gum on the carpet you want to take care of treating it as soon as possible. Get a sealable plastic bag and fill it with ice cubes. Lay the bag over the gum that is stuck to the carpet and allow it to freeze the gum. Once the gum is frozen you can work on removing it without it sticking more. You want to use a hard object such as a butter knife to scrape off the gum. Scrape away what you can and refreeze the area again and take another swing at the left over gum.
You Can Use Oil or Peanut Butter to Remove Chewing Gum from Carpet: This is another trick that many people use when they are stuck in a situation where there is gum in a child’s (or adult’s) hair. If you have ever fallen asleep with gum in your mouth and woken up and it is gone, it may be in your hair! The same solution can work on your carpets and rugs too! Use a scoop of peanut butter or oil to rub into the gum and start to break it down. Once the gum starts to break down you can pick up the bits. Be sure that if you are using this method you take care not to spread the peanut butter or oil too far since it can cause some damage to the other areas of the carpet.
