Dry carpet cleaning involves the use of specialized machines to clean carpets with recently developed chemical technologies that permit no-moisture or “very low moisture” (VLM) cleaning. It relies on dry compounds complemented by application cleaning solutions. This method of carpet cleaning is useful for many industrial applications as well as nursing homes where they is an increased risk of slip and fall accidents for example. Dry carpet cleaning has a very rapid drying time resulting in carpet beautification, and removal of stains, dirt, grit, and sand. It can remove up to 98% of household allergens and 89% of airborne bacteria and is safe around the entire family and pets. Whether steam or dry methods are used; clean carpets are more visually pleasing, potentially longer-lasting and much healthier for you and your family than poorly maintained carpet.

Best Way to Clean the Carpets in Your Home

The method of dry carpet cleaning uses millions of microscopic bubbles to explode dirt from deep in your carpet fibers, which is why only a fraction of water is used. After the carbonation releases and lifts the dirt, high powered equipment extracts dirt and moisture from the carpet. This is a deep cleaning, no residue, low-moisture and amplified hot carbonating extraction system with a 1-2 hour drying time. New carpet care technologies, in particular, encapsulation and other green technologies are easy to use, require minimal training, and can lead to less re-soiling than prior methods. Encapsulation is polymers that literally encapsulate (crystallize) soil particles into dry residues on contact. Think of tiny sponges that absorb the deep-cleaning compounds.

How the Dry-Carpet Cleaning Process Works

Pre-treatments, pre-conditioners, or “traffic-lane cleaners” are detergents or emulsifiers that break the binding of soils to carpet fibers over a short period of time. These are commonly sprayed onto the carpet prior to the primary use of the dry-cleaning system. The chemical dissolves the greasy films attached to carpet and the solution may also include a solvent. The amount of time the pretreatment stays in the carpet should be less than 15 minutes because of the thorough carpet brushing common to these “very low moisture” systems that provides added agitation to ensure the pretreatment works fully through the carpet. It is then extracted using an acid based rinse solution through a hot water extraction machine. Triple dry strokes are used to ensure a low dry time. While this process is not strictly dry cleaning, it cleans deep into the fibers. The dry compound is an absorbent, 98% biodegradable cleaning compound spread evenly over carpet and brushed or scrubbed in. For commercial applications, a special cylindrical counter-rotating brush system is used, without a vacuum cleaner. Machine scrubbing is more typical, in that hand scrubbing generally cleans only the top third of the carpet. After the cleaning product in the solution is deposited onto the surface as a mist, a round buffer or “bonnet” scrubs the mixture with rotating motion. It looks like a floor buffer with an absorbent spin pad that attracts soil and is rinsed or replaced immediately. To reduce wear on the carpet, the pad should be kept well-lubricated with cleaning solution.

Caring for any type of materials for your upholstered furnishings is important to keep the beauty, aesthetic appearance, and to preserve the longevity. Leather is not only classic and elegant, but it has been known to last for years with the proper care and maintenance. Leather sofas and chairs are relatively easy to care for; however, it does require some diligence to keep them conditioned and looking prestigious. Like all upholstery, leather needs care and maintenance.

Professional Advice from the Leather Upholstery Cleaning Experts at Carpet Care 2000

– Similar to wood, leather does not react well to heat sources, which causes it to dry out. Avoid placing your leather in direct sunlight and next to fireplaces or radiators. When the leather dries out, the color will fade, and material will stiffen and crack, forcing your leather upholstery into early retirement.
Regular cleaning. The more often you do the basic cleaning, the better. We recommend daily cleaning routines, but not everyone has the time, so as often as you can, clean your leather upholstery. Use the vacuum attachments to vacuum the creases and crevices, the button tufting, cushions, under cushions and sides, back, and top of the upholstery to remove the dust and other debris. If you do not have a compatible vacuum, use clean cotton or our favorite, a microfiber cloth to wipe away the dust.
Immediately clean spills. Just because you implement the “no eating or drinking” rule on your leather, doesn’t mean it is always complied with. And if you don’t have the rule, accidents will happen, including other nonfood or beverage spills. They need to be tended to right away. Avoid using moistened clothes or towels, instead use a dry cloth and clean up the mess. If a fine residue remains, at the time use a lightly dampened cloth to wipe away the remaining crust, followed by a dry cloth to absorb the moisture.
Avoid harsh soaps and abrasive tools. If stains are ruining the appearance of your leather, do not reach for harsh soaps, detergents, cleaning solvents, or ammonia based cleaners to remove them. Especially do not use anything to clean with besides a microfiber or cotton cloth. Keep away from soaking stains in water as well.
Tend to scratches. Leather can be easily scratched. Keep sharp objects away from your leather furniture. Buff any minor scratches with a chamois.
Condition leather. Leather requires periodic conditioning every 6-12 months. Extremely hot and dry climates should consider quarterly treatments. Leather conditioner can be found in most department or auto stores.

Having a party where cake is involved is always fun. The sweet tasty treat buzzes excitement and anticipation as the presented cake slices are dispersed. But accidents happen, especially if children are thrown in the equation, and now that array of icing colors is blemishing your carpet. But being the patient and down to earth host you are, you do an excellent job of keeping your composure, give yourself a pat on the back, and now it is time to laugh it up and tend to the mess before a stubborn stain tries to set up residency.

Carpet Care 2000 share some tips to remove cake icing stains.

1. Remove the bulk of the frosting. For starters, you will need a dull edge from a spatula or butter knife and a few paper towels or paper plate. Carefully scoop up the bulk of icing on to the paper towel. Do not smash the icing into the carpet. Do this process gently. Use your fingers if there are chunks of cake left, and then scoop the rest.
2. Dampen the carpet stain. Using a spray bottle, minimally spray some water onto the infected area. Do not over saturate, but just dampen the area. This will help keep it moist so the stain is easier cleaned up and it will not set quickly.
3. Solution. Combine 1 part vinegar to 4 parts warm water and mix well in a spray bottle. Apply the solution to the stain generously, but do not over saturate. Vinegar is ideal for breaking down the sugars and dye of the stain. Allow your vinegar solution to set on the stain for approximately 5 minutes or so.
4. Blot up the stain. With a white cloth, or white paper towels, start blotting at the stain. Resist the compulsion to rub or scrub, as this merely spreads the stain out and deep. Continue blotting, this process requires patience but will be easier in the long run. If the stain begins to dry out before it is lifted, simply reapply the solution and continue blotting.
5. Rinse. After the area is stain free, flush the area with clear water from and blot up the moisture as much as possible.
6. Vacuum. Once the area is fully dry, vacuum the treated area to keep the fibers relaxed and remove any lingering debris.

Carpet Cleaning & Stain Removal Notes

– Do not use HOT water as this could cause the dye in the stain to set into the fibers.
– Always blot, do not rub scrub or rub as previously mentioned.
– Test any homemade remedy solutions or over the counter commercial product in an inconspicuous area to ensure the fibers are not lightened or compromised.
– Attend the stain immediately, as leaving the stain to fester can make it much more difficult to remove.
– Use white cloths or paper towels. Using colored or printed cloths/paper towels can transfer dyes or the print to the carpet.

Sweep or Vacuum Your Tile: If you have ever just started to mop your floors before you swept or vacuumed the tile floor, you know that it soon becomes a huge mess of mud. That is because there is a lot of dust, dirt and debris that is on the tile whether you can see it or not. The best way to make sure that the floor will get cleaned is to start with removing these extra bits of dust and dirt. You can accomplish this task by sweeping or running your vacuum on a safe setting. You want to be sure that you are doing it often since this same dust and dirt can work as an abrasive sandpaper type effect to damage the tile.
Use A Proper Tile & Cleaner: You want to use a cleaner that is best for your kind of flooring. You want to use a different cleaner if you have a stone floor as opposed to a laminate or manmade tile floor. You can try some options out to see what works best for your floors and leaves them nice and streak free.
Scrub The Grout: If you want to clean the grout yourself by all means go for it. The time that it takes to clean the grout even on a small area can be extreme. The flood can be from many different reasons which can include a plumbing malfunction. This can be a toilet that has overflowed or a sink that was left running for a long period of time. You can also have trouble with a water heater that has broken and the water has leaked into the home. The last most common cause of water damage is due to severe weather. It can be from a major rain storm or a roof leak during a rain storm. Whatever the reason the faster you work the better.

Water Damage Can Cause Mold & Mildew: One of the main components that is needed in order for mold or mildew growth is water! The other component is time and usually a little bit of warmth. That is exactly what is happening when you have a flood or water damage that effects your carpets. That is why it is imperative to treat your flood and water damage as soon as possible. The longer the water is left, the better the chance is that mold and mildew will grow. Mold is especially dangerous to your health and if it is fond the cleanup process is much more intense and will require some items to be thrown out.
Water Damage Can Cause Irreversible Damage: When you have water damage to your carpets it is not just the carpet fibers that are being affected. The padding that is under the carpet is also being soaked as well. The padding is exactly like a sponge and can soak up a significant amount of water that needs to be removed. The water has to be dried out and if the flood is significant it may need to be extracted first. This can be done with a high pressure carpet cleaning vacuum. The water can be extracted and then it can have fans set up to dry the rest.

We spend several hours each day lying on our mattresses. We sweat as much as a 16oz of water and shedding up to 30oz of skin particles and dandruff in the average night. All of which makes its way through sheets and settle in our mattresses. Over time dust mites gather in your mattress to feast on these particles.

Reasons to Clean Your Dirty Mattress

Many of us just dive into our covers after a long day. Grease and grime from the day add to contents of our mattress. Some of us even snack in bed and the crumbs attract unwanted creepy-crawly visitors into our beds! It is very important to clean our mattresses the same way we clean our bed sheets, pillows and duvets. Few of us replace our mattresses on a regular basis making it important to clean them. Steam is the perfect way to do this. Lifting stains will make us keep our mattresses lasting longer and steam cleaning will prevent over-wetting like liquid cleaning solutions which makes drying time longer.

How Carpet Care 2000 Cleans Your Mattress

Carpet Care 2000 always uses a hand tool and vacuum before steam cleaning to remove surface dust and debris. If needed, we may even use a rotary tool to agitate the surface, freeing more embedded debris. This is important with families that have long hair or pets that sleep with them. We use short bursts of steam which is better than continuous delivery and prevents over-wetting. We pass over stains more often, gently pressing the tool onto the mattress to reach trapped dust and debris. ANd we don’t forget the sides of the mattress! We then let it dry naturally. This shouldn’t take too long as it’s been steam cleaned and not liquid cleaned. We also use a crevice tool to get into the quilting, along the top edge welting and where your pillow top is attached. Removing stains also removes odors because of the enzymes they contain!

Health Reasons

Dust mites can be highly allergenic to humans and can trigger asthma. Itchiness, red or watering eyes, runny nose, and eczema flare-ups can be symptoms of exposure to dust mites. Steam cleaning can kill off dust mites. Your mattress can be host to a number of parasites and other allergens that can worsen your quality of living. Even the most immaculate homes can get bed bugs. To be totally free of nasty dust mites, bed bugs, bacteria and allergens steam cleaning should always be followed by vigorous vacuuming to remove anything left behind. You can spray the mattress and box spring with a disinfecting spray, like Lysol. It’s safe to use on fabric and kills bacteria that cause odors. To freshen your mattress between cleanings, sprinkle on some baking soda, wait 15 minutes and vacuum.

Vacuuming Can Keep The Carpet Fibers Fresh: If you go a few days without running your vacuum you are sure to notice a big different. Many people love to see the lines that are on the carpet after they have run the vacuum because it makes them look fluffy and clean. When the vacuum is ran on a regular basis such as each day you are removing dirt and dust from the carpet that is settling in the fibers. The longer these contaminants are left to sit on the carpet the more they will grind down into the fibers and collapse them and leave them smashed in and less likely to fluff back up.
Removing & Treating Spots: If you spill anything on your carpets including water you want to be sure to treat the spot as soon as possible. The longer the spot is left to sit on the carpet the harder it will be to remove. Depending on the kind of spot there are different treatments to remove it efficiently. Use a tried and true method and treat the spills as soon as possible.
