Carpet Care 2000 Lists Installation Techniques for New Carpet & How To Care For It

Glue Down Carpet on Concrete Install: If you want to go with the most standard and common type of installation for a commercial office, a glued down carpet is the way to go. This option only works when the cement under that carpet is in good shape. It is also necessary for the floor to be in good shape without holes, dents and cracks. The great thing about a glued down application is that the carpet is secured all over. It is great option for an area that you know you will be moving furniture and heavy items across. The carpet is less likely to buckle, shift and bubble up. Some of the disadvantages about glue down carpet is that they are not as comfortable. The carpet lacks padding and that means that the floor will not be as cozy to lay on and enjoy. When the carpet has to be removed the process can be difficult too. The carpets need to be cleaned regularly to ensure they look good and last.
Stretch Carpet Installation Method: This is the most common installation technique that is used in homes. The option makes it so that the carpet can have a nice padding and can be secured. When the installation happens there are wood strips that have tacks on them that are glued down around the room. The carpet is then stretched out to these edges and secured with the tacks. The great thing is that there is padding that is normally glued down in the middle of the room all the way to the tack strips. The benefits are the carpeting is extremely comfortable and is easier to be removed when the time is right. The negatives are when there is a spill it will soak all the way through the carpet and the padding as well. Some of the other negatives is that it can buckle and ripple because the lack of attachment in the center of the room.
Carpet Square Tile Installs: This is a way to add carpeting to a space without using a standard large piece of carpet. The carpet squares are each individual pieces that have a backing that adheres to the floor underneath. These squares won’t last as long as standard carpet and don’t have a padding so they are not as comfortable. The great thing is that the carpet squares are a quick and inexpensive option.

There are some myths that are widespread when it comes to the necessity of carpet care and carpet cleaning. These myths are a problem because carpet is not a cheap addition to a home. That means that if you are one of the millions that want to save money, you need to care for your carpet properly. If you take steps to keep it cleared of debris and dirt, as well as clean potentially damaging causing stains as they happen, you are on the right track. That is really the only path to long lasting carpets but getting there is the problem for many people. Some are not sure about the best way to clean spots, stains and debris. Using the correct techniques also plays a huge role in the care of carpet cleaning.

Carpet Care 2000 Lists Myths About Carpet Care So You Can Avoid Them

I Can Clean My Own Carpets: This is a huge mistake and many feel confused about it. You can go to a home improvement store and find a rental kiosk that has machines that claim to clean like a professional. You can get the cleaning solutions that go the machine as well and take it all home. Not only do you need to know how to use the actual machine but the power behind a rentable carpet is not even close to a professional carpet cleaner. If you are not sure what you are doing, you can potentially over wet the carpet which can quickly lead to mildew and even mold. If you don’t have a machine that is strong enough to extract the water, cleaning solutions and dirt; this is the outcome. If you need to have your carpets cleaned you need to call a professional company to ensure that it is done right.
I Had Protectant Added So I Don’t Need Carpet Cleaning: There are many carpets that have a protectant on them when they come from the manufacturer. There are other aftermarket protectants that can be added to a carpet to help with cleaning spots and stains. Although there is a protectant on the carpet that does not mean you are free from professional carpet cleaning needs. The protectant makes it much easier to remove spills on the carpet because it holds the spills off the fibers. You can dab away the moisture before it sets in. You still need to have the carpet cleaned professionally to remove any set in stains as well as general dirt and debris from everyday traffic.
My Carpets Don’t Look Dirty So I Don’t Need To Have Them Cleaned: There are some people that think because carpets don’t have visible stains and dirt, there is no need to clean them. That is far from the truth since there is every day dirt that is settling on the carpet. The carpet will have dirt from shoes, skin and the air that is in the house. These things may not end up not looking like much but they are still there. Over time the dirt will start to compact on the carpet and cause a much harder mess to clean. It is always best to have the carpets cleaned on a regular basis even if they seem to not look dirty.

There seems to be shelves of cleaners that claim to be specialized towards every area of your life. You can buy a bottle of cleaner to use on your bathtub while another claims to work on mirrors. Then you have kitchen cleaners for stone counters, stainless steel sinks and hardwood floors. It can be extremely difficult to get through the amount of cleaners and choose the best ones for your cleaning needs. One of the issues is that you want the product to do what it is supposed to do. You also assume that the cleaner being sold to you is safe and won’t cause damage to your surfaces they are used on. The problem is that some of the chemicals that are in these cleaners can be damaging to your tile, grout, hardwood, stone and carpet. You need to take good care with what products you use on a particular surface.

Carpet Care 2000 List Things You May Be Cleaning With That Could Be Damaging Your Tile & Grout

Can You Use Bleach on Porcelain Tiles?: When you want to clean something as well as sanitize, most people reach for the bleach. Bleach is a great cleaner to use for whitening clothes as well as sanitizing surfaces. The biggest problem is that the tile may be able to withstand the extreme chemicals but the grout will suffer for sure. The grout is much more porous and once the bleach soaks into the grout lines, it can easily start to loosen and break down the grout. Once the grout has been compromised it no longer is holding the tile in place and keeping out spills and water. If you use bleach, the tile over time will start to lose the shine that once existed.
Using Acid To Clean Tile: It may seem weird to use acid to clean your floors but it happens. When you buy a cleaner at the store and choose to use it be sure that you read the ingredients. It may surprise you to find that there is acid in the cleaner. The issue is that acid will break down the grout extremely fast and can make a hug impact on it within two applications.
Can You Use Dish Soap to Mop Tile?: If you think about your mother washing the floors the memory is most likely a mop bucket that has warm water and dish soap from the sink. Soap is soap and is used in many cleaning products so what could possibly be the problem? The issue is that dish soap is a very hard substance to remove completely. That means that once you think your done there is still soap residue on the tile and grout. This will allow dirt to accumulate faster and that can end up causing the grout to deteriorate and the floors to get dirty faster.

You also need to be sure that you hire a professional carpet cleaning company to come out regularly to clean the carpets to get those hard to reach dirt, allergen and stains. The other way to keep your carpets looking their very best is to quickly treat stains as soon as you see them! Treating a stain fast is the best way to ensure that you are able to get it out of the carpet fibers. You want to be sure that you use a good cleaner and that can be found in your kitchen cupboards.

Carpet Care 2000 Lists Unusual Carpet Cleaning Solutions That You Can Try To Treat Your Carpet Spills & Stains

Beer Can Remove Coffee Stains from Carpet: This may seem counterproductive to use a drink to clean a stain but it works great. Beer can be used to counteract other spills such as coffee. The alcohol and carbonation in the beer is great for removing the color from the carpet so that it can be dabbed away. Use a few tablespoons of beer on the spot that you want to treat. Once it has sat for about a minute use a nice clean cloth to dab away the stain and the excess beer as well. Like with any type of cleaner make sure that you use an inconspicuous area to test the cleaner beforehand.
Vinegar Is A Great All Purpose Cleaning Solution: If you have white vinegar in your cupboards you have a general cleaner. You can use vinegar to clean your stone tile floors as well as toilets and other kitchen and bathroom essentials. If you want to use vinegar on your carpets for spills and stains you want to make sure that you mix it with water. Use equals parts water and vinegar and put it in a spray bottle that is clearly marked. This way anytime you see a spill you can use your spray to saturate the area then dab away with a clean cloth. It is a great cleaner to keep on hand all year long.
White Wine & Salt Can Help Remove Red Wine Stains: One of the most common spills that concern homeowners is red wine. It is acidic and the stain from the color sets in very quickly. The answer to a red wine spill is white wine. The white wine dilutes the color and makes it so that you can remove it from the carpet. You need to act immediately when you see the spill by using the white wine. Once you have used a sponge to remove the wine, cover the stain with salt. Let the salt stand on the spot for about ten minutes then use the vacuum to remove the salt and the color that is absorbed in it.

Accidents always seem to happen on our carpets and sofas; especially with little ones. One of the worst is blood. Bloody noses, cuts from craft time etc. seem to become a major problem when it comes to our carpets, especially lighter colored carpets. Removing blood stains may seem a challenge but if you have the “know how” you will find you can remove blood stains easily and keep your carpets clean and fresh looking. Carpet Care 2000 will share a few ways to remove blood stains out of carpets and fabric furniture.

Clean Blood Stains from Carpet & Fabric Right Away

When cleaning blood stains out of carpets there are a few rules you will want to keep in mind. One: as soon as a blood stain occurs you will want to clean the stain instead of allowing it to sit or dry too long. Never scrub at a blood stain. You will want to blot at the stain. However if the blood stain has dried, some rules may not apply.

How to Remove Dried Blood Stains from Carpet & Fabric

If the blood stain has dried here is a method to remove the stain. However it is not nearly as effective if you attended to the blood stain the moment it occurs.
– Start by using a stiff brush to brush at the stain (only if it is dry) to remove as much of the dried blood as possible that’s on the surface. Then mix 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap with 2 cups of cold water. Once you have that, take a clean white cloth and dip the cloth in water, then blot at the stain. Continue to blot at the stain until the blood begins to fade. You can use a dry white cloth to absorb the cleaning solution as you continue to blot.
– If you haven’t completely removed the stain with this method, here is the next step you can take. Mix a half cup of warm water with one tablespoon of ammonia. Using either a cloth or a sponge dip it into your mixture and apply it directly to the stain. Continue to blot at the stain until the blood stain begins to fade. Then use a dry cloth to soak up the moisture. Repeat this process until the blood stain is gone.
– Another method for cleaning up blood stains without using any chemicals: using cold water, fill a water bottle up and dab at the stain on the outside and work your way towards the middle of the stain. This will prevent the stain from spreading outward and making more of a mess. Make sure you allow the water to soak around the stain for a few minutes. Then use a high powered wet vac to suck up the moisture as well as the stain.

Depending on the size or amount of the carpet leftover you can make cat or dog bedding and give extra padding for your pet to snuggle up on. For the more ambitious pet owner, you make a dog or cat house lined with carpet for extra padding and insulation.

Carpet Remnant to Protect Inside of Vehicle Floor

Some people like to lay an additional layer of carpet to protect the inside of their vehicle floor. Having a larger piece of leftover carpet is easy enough to cut to fit on the floors of vehicles floor perfectly. As they become dirty and worn out you can simply remove them. Your original floors are still clean and in good condition.

Turn Leftover Carpet into Floor Mats or Rugs

You can make your own custom floor mats. There are fabric paints that can be used on carpet to add your own personality with either design or images you may want to do. This can be a fun project for kids or adults. Depending again on the size, it could be used for bath rooms, kitchens, or even a large area rug.

Carpet Scraps Make Great Knee Pads for Gardening & Cleaning

Smaller pieces make for great knee pads. Whether you are doing outdoor projects or indoor cleaning etc., having extra padding for your knees will help relieve pressure and pain from off your knees. Don’t be shy on using one or two layers for extra padding. Your knee deserves it.

Homemade Carpet Draft Stoppers

Another great use for leftover carpet is to use them as draft blockers. For areas with big gaps like window seal or doorways that let in a draft, you can use the leftover pieces to cut in thin strips and place under these draft points.

Carpet Floor Games for Kids

Cutting the larger pieces in squares can be used for kid’s games like hopscotch for an indoor game for those days when the outdoors isn’t hospitable for play. You can even put the carpet pieces in doll houses for a realistic feel to your kids play time. Just cut and place in the doll house or you can even glue it in place.

Carpet Furniture Moving Sliders & Pads

For those smaller pieces, you can cut them into small squares for furniture movers or pads. This works the best on tile floors or wooden floors. For considerably large leftovers, you can use them for your home gym. For those of you who have workout equipment on patios or in garages, the hard surface can be rather unpleasant to workout on. Having some padding for you and your equipment will make your workout cleaner and more comfortable.
