When there is a party, there are often two common elements often found left behind in your carpet. What might that be, you ask? Well, pizza and beers stains, of course. For those who may have hosted friends and family over to watch the super bowl, or a party for a birthday or other special occasion, someone is left with clean up duty. If you have discovered that your carpets have been assaulted by beer or pizza stains, Carpet Care 2000 will share how to tackle those stubborn stains.

How to Remove Fresh or Set In Beer Stains on Carpet

There are a few ways you can handle beer stains. This first method is when the beer stain is fresh and you get to it rather quickly. Start by using a cloth or paper towel. Lay either one over the beer to help absorb the liquid before it soaks deep into the carpet. You may need to press gently down to help absorb more of the spilled beer. Next, combine one tablespoon of white vinegar and liquid dish soap into two cups of warm water and mix them all together. Use a sponge and blot at the stain. Work on the outside of the stain first and work your way inward. As the stain begins to clear away, use a dry cloth and press down to absorb the remainder of the liquid. Of course there are other methods that work great to remove beer stains. This one is similar to the first where you want to use a paper towel or cloth to absorb the beer out of the carpet. Using Woolite carpet cleaner, spray the stain and let the foam do its job. Allow the Woolite to set on the carpet for 10 to 15 minutes. Next you towel dry the area and then vacuum the carpet.

How to Clean Tomato Pizza Sauce & Grease Stains on Carpet

Pizza is a combination of messy pizza sauce and grease. together they can make a nasty stain. Like beer stains, there are many methods that can work to remove pizza and grease stains from out of the carpet. This first method starts by using a sponge with cold water. Blot at the stain working on the outside to the inside of the stain. Next, take a slice of lemon and rub it on the stain. Once again, pour cold water onto the stain generously so the stain gets covered. With a dry cloth blot at the stain. The pizza stain should begin the dissolve. Once the stain is no longer visible, allow the carpet to dry and then vacuum to restore the pile. If the sauce stain is dry, this method will help remove the dried pizza sauce stains. Use a butter knife to scrape away as much of dry crusty pizza sauce as you can. If the sauce is still wet, gently scrape the sauce off working on the outside first and move inward. Pour club soda to cover the stain. With a damp cloth or sponge, press on the pizza sauce. The sponge should absorb the sauce out of the carpet. Next, use a dry cloth or paper towel and press down on the affected area to absorb the liquid out of the carpet. Now mix together two cups of cold water with one tablespoon of liquid dish soap. With a sponge and the mixture, blot at the stain. You may need to soak the stain. Make sure to rinse the area with cold water afterwards. Again, use a dry cloth and blot the area dry.

Some of the fibers are cut and straight while others have a loop that has not been cut at all. These two different aspects end up making a great texture on your carpet. The frieze means that the carpet fibers area twisted. The twisted locks will make the fibers have a curled look and they usually will flop over. Be sure to look into frieze carpet when you are ready to replace the carpet in your home.
Neutral Carpet Colors: Instead of checking into the style of carpet that you want, you can look at the right color. The color is a huge part of what the room will look like and that is why coming up with a color scheme might be the best start. Carpets seem to inevitably collect stains and spots. More often than not, the quicker you treat a spill or an accident, the better off you are in removing any traces and residues. But sometimes, there are those exceptions that no matter what you do, you are not going to triumph. Unsightly stains can make your carpets look low grade; bringing down an otherwise meticulously kept room. There are some chemicals that can permanently discolor carpets. One primary, common household product is bleach, or bleach-based products. When bleach makes contact with your carpets, it will instantly start lightening them. Depending on the quantity and potency, dictates how quick the process is. There are a few fundamental basics that you should know about bleach. Carpet Care 2000 will get into some advice on handling bleach spots.

Is a Bleach Spill on Carpet a Stain or Spot?

Many people suggest that a bleach spot is a stain and with the correct DIY remedy, you can simply remove the hideous marks. Bleach is not wine you can sop up and add a little of this and that to lift the stain. Bleach, unfortunately, is a chemical agent that literally dissolves the color pigments from your carpets. Depending on how dark your carpets are, it will first turn lighter, than perhaps and orangish color, than a yellowish color, and if enough time and potency is involved, it can turn the carpets white where it made contact. Because the color is being stripped, throwing some white vinegar on top and blotting it up will not restore your carpet back to its natural state.

How to Prevent Bleach Spots on Carpet from Getting Worse

You can minimize the damage by halting the progress of the bleach, or bleach based products in the event they make contact with your carpets. When treating bleach, avoid the following:
– Do not use hot water.
– Do not use colored or printed cloths or towels, as the dyed or printed cloths can transfer the dye onto the carpet, stick to solid white to be safe).
– Do not rub, scrub, and wipe vigorously.

How to Treat Bleach Spots on Carpet

1) Start by using a white cloth to gently blot the moisture of the bleach. Begin working on the outer edges of the spot and work your way into the center to avoid spreading the bleach out. With minimal pressure blots being more optimal, you can avoid pushing the bleach deeper into the fibers.
2) Lightly sponge pure water onto the spots, for a light rinse and blot out the moisture with a dry cloth.
3) Mix together one cup of water, with ¼ cup white vinegar in a squirt bottle to neutralize the bleach. Moderately mist the bleached area with the mixture and let it sit five minutes.
4) Use a damp cloth to blot up the mixture.
5) With a dry cloth, blot the area to pull up the excess moisture.
6) Call a professional that offers bleach carpet repair services, such as Carpet Care 2000 to efficiently restore your carpet back.

Making sure that your carpet is clean and all the spots removed is a task that takes time. It is also something that has to be worked on constantly and each type of spill has to be cleaned with the correct method. On top of cleaning any spills, stains or spots you have to also use the vacuum to clean any debris and dirt that might be on the carpet. When it comes to spots and stains on the carpet if you choose to use the incorrect method you may end up making the problem much worse. When you are dealing with gum that has landed on your carpet you need to use ice to freeze the gum so you are able to remove it with a hard object. When it is wax from a candle you need to use heat to get it to lift off the carpet. Most stains from a liquid needs to be worked on as soon as you possibly can. The liquid will soak into the carpet fibers as well as the backing and padding making it much harder to remove the longer it sits. Another problem is when your carpet has mud on it. The process is something that you need to use patience for. You want the mud to actually dry all the way out before you try and treat it so that it does not get worse. A stain that is feared by most is the dreaded paint. You can end up with paint on your carpet from interior paint job as well as crafting. It is best to know what the method to use to get the paint off the carpet.

Best Method to Get Oil Paint Spills Off Carpets

This may seem like an odd way to clean paint off the carpet but using WD-40 is a great way to treat the problem. You need to start by collecting the items that you will need in addition to the WD-40. Get out a pair of gloves to protect your hands, a clean wash cloth, dish detergent, warm water and a hard object such as a knife. The first step that you want to take when you are treated a paint spill is to remove the excess. This is where the butter knife comes in handy. You can gently pry the paint off the carpet leaving as little as possible. Then you use the WD-40 to soak the spot that is still stained from the paint. You need to allow the treatment to sit on the spot for about 15 to 20 minutes. This will work to break down the paint so that it is easier to pull away from the fibers. Then use the wash cloth to dab and soak up the rest of the paint. Then follow up the cleaning process with a warm water as well as dish detergent. This will help to clean the WD-40 and any residual paint as well.

Having the right carpet pad can make or break the feel of your carpet. You can choose the highest quality carpet and still get mediocre results if you don’t choose the right padding. Who knew there were so many carpet padding choices out there? Carpet Care 2000 is here to talk about the importance of choosing the right padding as well as some of the options that may be available to you.

Different Carpet Padding Specifications

When it comes to the carpet padding for your home, don’t make the mistake of thinking that the thicker your carpet pad, the better it will feel underfoot. If you choose a carpet pad that is too thick, you would see wrinkling and buckling under your carpet. Along with pad thickness comes the density of your carpet pad.

Appropriate Carpet Pad Thickness

For most residential settings, the ideal carpet pad thickness is 7/16”. This is usually the thickest you will want to have installed to keep your warranty valid. If you are having berber carpet installed or commercial grade carpet, you may have to use a special pad to increase the longevity of your carpet.

Carpet Pad Density

When choosing the density of the carpet padding, know that the denser the pad, the firmer the feel. Many landlords will choose to have a density rating of 3-5 because it is more cost effective. However, the most common density installed in residential settings is between 6 pounds and 8 pounds. While 6 pound density will feel softer underfoot, you will see better wear and more support for your carpet when you choose 8 pound density.

Types of Carpet Padding

There are several types of padding available to you. Here are some that you will commonly see.
Rebond Pad– This is by far the most common type of padding used in residential settings. This is the most economical choice, but choose a rebond pad with high quality materials.
Foam Padding– Incredibly thin as well as affordable. Best used in apartment settings where you expect to only get a few years out of it.
Prime Urethane Foam– Designed for commercial settings and incredibly dense. Can be used in residential settings, but will more expensive and not as comfortable.
Wool or Fiber Pad– Great choice for Berber carpet selections. It breathes well and is a great choice for high traffic areas.
Specialty Pads– While they advertise these pads as being an excellent choice for pet owners, you will find they won’t be the cure all for your untrained pet. Be aware that you need to avoid pet urine at all costs even when choosing this pad.

Having children makes life fun. We love to watch them reach all their milestones, but all that growing up, can leave a mess behind. Many times, the mess they leave behind is on our carpet! There are some stains that are very common when there are children in the home.

Common Carpet Stains Involving Toddlers & Children

1. Crayons– Kids love to get creative and want to show off all the artwork they make. The only time you won’t like these masterpieces is when the color ends up on your carpet. To remove crayon stains, use a wet sponge with baking soda to gently wipe the stains away.
2. Ink– When children get older they will move onto pens. Sometimes the ink will end up on the carpet. As soon as you spot an ink stain start blotting it with a clean towel and some rubbing alcohol. Let the rubbing alcohol sit for a few minutes and then rinse with vinegar and warm water.
3. Colored drinks– Kids love bright colors and juice is no exception. The brightly colored tongues may be cute but not on carpet. Start blotting any drink stain with a clean towel to draw as much of it out as you can. Do not scrub. This will only cause the stain to spread. After you’ve absorbed as much as you can, use a solution of soap, white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the area and let it sit for about 10 minutes and blot again with a clean towel.
4. Blood– Kids can get rowdy when they play, and blood can get on the carpet. Take care of the wounded child first and then work quickly to remove the stain. Use cold water mixed with dish detergent that fights grease and follow the same method used to remove colored drinks.
5. Gum– Kids love gum. Many times, they don’t keep it in their mouths. When it gets on your carpet it can be a mess to deal with. Use an ice cube on the gum to make it hard. Once it’s hard it will be easier to remove. You may need to scrape it a little but be careful not to damage the carpet fibers.
6. Chocolate– Kids and chocolate just go together but chocolate and carpet? Not so much. The first thing you’ll need to do is scoop up as much of it as you can and vacuum the area. Then you can use ¼ teaspoon of liquid dish soap and a cup of warm water. Apply this to a cloth and gently work the stain from the outside in. Leave the solution for five minutes and then blot until it’s dry.
7. Acne medication– Older children often need to use acne medication. This medication can cause stains on your carpet. You can prevent bleaching by using anti-chlor (Red 1 or Red Relief). It will need to be extracted 15-20 minutes after it been applied.
