When the weather gets cold outside there are a few things that can help. The first is that you can turn on the heater in your house. The next thing that you can do is to layer your clothing so that you stay warm while you are out and about. Lastly and something that invites the season into a home is to start up the fireplace. If you have a wood burning fire place you are at risk of having a mess from the soot that is a product of burning wood. There are many ways to keep the soot from getting on your carpets and house. One is to ensure that your fireplace is cleaned and all the buildup is removed. The other thing that you can do is to make sure that you keep all the tools that are used on the fire out of the reach of kids that could walk around with them. You want to make sure that you do what you can to prevent the soot from getting on the carpet but if it does it is best to use the right method to clean it off.

Carpet Care 2000 Outlines How to Remove Soot from Carpet

Use Your Vacuum Cleaner Hose to Remove Soot from Carpet: The problem that occurs when you have a stain such as soot on the carpet is that there are larger chunks that will only make the problem worse. The best thing that you can do is to try and pick up the bits without spreading them out further. You can use the hose on your vacuum to work over the areas that have the soot. The soot can have larger pieces that need to be picked and the vacuum with the hose attached is the best way to do that. You want to make sure that you are careful so that you don’t walk over the staining. This could mash the soot deeper into the carpet making it harder to remove.
Make a Safe Carpet Cleaning Stain Removal Solution: Now that you are ready to take on the actual cleaning of the spot you want to use a solution that is safe for your carpets. You can use a bowl that you add a couple of drops into. Then use warm water to fill the rest of the bowl and mix it to make suds that are forming at the top. The solution is a cleaner that is homemade and usually will not cause damage to any type of carpets. It is always still a good idea to test it out if you are nervous about it.
Use a Toothbrush to Remove Soot Stains on Carpet: Now that the excess has been removed and you have a cleaning solution you can use a soft bristle brush that is small enough to work in small areas. You want to be sure that you push the stain from the outside to the inside of the stain. This will help to keep the stain from getting any larger while helping you work in order.
Finish Carpet Cleaning Process: You can finish the cleaning process by using a spray bottle that has been filled with cold water and spraying it on the area. Then you can use a soft clean cloth to dab the spot until it has been dried. If the stain still exists you want to call out a professional to clean it.

Pet owners often have to clean their carpets due to pet accidents or even the hair and dander they leave behind. Some may eventually remove their carpet for another flooring choice that makes it easier to clean up after their pets. For those who love the soft padding and comfort that carpet provides, you may hate to have to replace your carpets. The good news is you don’t have to. In the past few years improved development of carpets has finally produced a pet proof carpet. There is now a carpet you can have in your home alongside your pets. Carpet Care 2000 will share how pet proof carpet works and why pet owners should consider using this carpet.

Dog Urine Smell & Other Pet Odors in Carpet

Pet owners often battle removing pet odors out of their carpets, even after having their carpets deep cleaned. Often, and in a short period of time, the odors are back. This is because the odor is in the padding which is the bottom layer that gives carpet the extra padding. When you have your carpet cleaned the surface layer or the carpet gets cleaned, however, the padding can never be cleaned unless the carpet is pulled off and the padding is then cleaned. Since it is near impossible to have the under padding cleaned each time your pet has an accident, most pet owners will replace their carpet in favor of a solid surface which makes it easier to clean.

Premium Pet Proof Carpet Pad

There are many people who would prefer having carpet over tile or wood floors. This is why pet proof carpet went into development. The focus first was in creating a padding that was resistant to urine and other fluids. Where in the padding is still essentially the same, the surface is coated with a spill barrier that prevents liquids or fluids from seeping into the padding. With this water or fluid resistant surface, pet urine or vomit will not seep into the padding where bacteria can develop and constantly release the odors over time.

Pet Stain Resistant Carpet

With the advancement of the resistant padding other advancements were made to the carpet as well. Each developer or manufacturer varies on the carpet design. However, in general a new yarn system for the carpet pile or fibers also helps to repel stains including those from pets such as urine, vomit or feces stains. However, high levels of acid can still leave stains on all carpet and in some cases the vomit or feces can still damage and leave stains if acid levels are high enough. The yarn system uses a synthetic material that is partially made with water resistant materials. The fibers are woven much tighter and more compact which helps prevent fluids from seeping deep into the carpet. This is how much of the fluids are locked out of the carpet which also helps prevent many stains and odors from forming, especially those caused by your pets.

The holidays are upon us and that means family and friends will be coming and going. But all these comings and goings can lead to more carpet stains. Food stains, spilled drinks and foot traffic can all leave your carpet looking less than stellar. Try not to stress when accidents happen but work quickly to clean them up. This will give you better results and prevent any permanent damage.

Treating Holiday Carpet Stains

Gravy Spills on Carpet. When gravy ends up on your carpet, use a spoon and scoop up a much of it as you can. Use a mixture of 1 tsp. dishwashing detergent and 4 cups of warm water and blot the stain. Then use a clean cloth or sponge until you’ve absorbed all the liquid. Repeat until the stain is no longer visible.
Cranberry Sauce Stains on Carpet. Treat cranberry sauce like you would gravy. Scoop as much of it as you can and then blot with the same solution. Finish blotting with more water until it’s completely dry to make sure all the residue has been removed.
Red Wine Spills on Carpet. Blot immediately with a clean white cloth and then add a little water to the stain. The water will dilute the stain and make it easier. Make a 3 to 1 ratio paste of baking soda to water. Apply the paste and wait for it to dry. You can then vacuum it up and use an appropriate spot remover if the stain remains.
Fruit Juice Splashes on Carpet. Some of your guests are likely to be children and children love juice. If it ends up on the carpet, flush the stain with cold water and blot until it’s dry. You can then use the above solution and blot dry.
Dirt & Mud Stains on Carpet. Dirt, mud and wet leaves are easily tracked into your home over the holidays. Use mats at all the entrances to your home to reduce most of it. Vacuum up any debris and use the dishwashing detergent solution to blot and dry, if needed.
Tree Sap Carpet Stains. The trees we love to decorate can leave sap on the carpet. It can usually be picked off the carpet once it has dried. If it doesn’t, you can use the water and dishwashing solution or a spot cleaner to remove any that is left behind. Just make sure the spot cleaner is appropriate for your carpet to prevent any damage.
Tree Water Stains on Carpet. Having a fresh tree also means you may have tree water that spills onto your carpet. Tree water can leave brown stains on your carpet. You may also have rust spots from the tree stand. Use a solution of ½ vinegar and ½ water. The vinegar will neutralize the browning effect. This may not work very well if there are rust stains. You will most likely need to call in the professionals.

Decorating your home for Christmas is a wonderful way to spend some good quality time with your family. Millions of families across the world look forward to getting out their holiday decorations each year. When you finish decorating you may be frustrated when you look around and realize that while you have your winter wonderland all decorated, you also have unwanted glitter ALL over your house! It seems like so many Christmas decorations have glitter on them. Glitter does indeed make Christmas decorations beautiful but having it all over your flooring and furniture is just annoying. So how on earth do you get rid of glitter?

How to Clean Up Glitter from Carpet

If you have glitter on your carpet we recommend that you start out cleaning with your vacuum first. You will want to vacuum very slowly and go over each spot multiple times. If you have an attachment on your vacuum that does not have a brush you will see the best results with that. When you get done vacuuming you may still have glitter on your floor. We have two additional methods for you to try. First get some masking tape. Wrap some tape around your fingers with the sticky side facing out. Pat the glittered area with the tape to get the glitter off of your carpet. If you still have glitter on your floor get a wet paper towel. Dabbing the carpet with a wet paper towel should help get rid of any glitter that is left on your carpet.

How to Get Glitter Off of Tile & Hardwood Floors

Glitter on tile and hardwood flooring sounds like it should be easier to get rid of but you may be surprised that it can be harder than it sounds. Start sweeping up the glitter up with a broom. Do not forget to rinse the broom afterwards. If you leave the glitter on broom you will just transfer it to the next surface that you use the broom on. You can choose to vacuum it up instead of sweeping it if that is easier for you. Next get a wet cloth and wipe up any glitter that is left on your floor. You can also use the tape method mentioned above on your tile and hardwood floors.

How to Remove Glitter from Upholstered Furniture

Not only does glitter get on your flooring, it also gets on your upholstery. There are lots of different options for getting rid of glitter that has found its way onto your upholstery. You will want to start off with your vacuum and an appropriate attachment. An attachment without a brush is recommended. Vacuum up as much as you can from your upholstery. If there is still glitter on your upholstery you can use the tape method that was outlined above for removing glitter from carpet.

Have you noticed that your carpet has started to get a ripple in several places? This is a common problem and one that can look quite unsightly. This rippling of your carpet is known as buckling and there are several things that cause it. Carpet Care 2000 is here talk about what causes carpet buckling and what you can do to avoid it.

Humidity Can Cause Carpet to Ripple

Humidity is one of the leading causes of carpet buckling. If you live in an area that experiences four seasons, it is more likely than areas that don’t experience such extreme changes in the climate. Areas that have hot, humid summers will see this the worst because in the humid summer months, the carpet swells considerably. You may notice that the carpet lays down once again when the temperature regulates again in the fall. The best way to avoid this problem is to run your air conditioning system. It removes the humidity from the air inside your home and can make a big difference in the amount of swelling that takes place in your carpet.

Dragging Furniture Causes Carpet Buckling

When you drag heavy furniture across your carpet, it can cause your carpet to ripple. Heavy furniture tugs at the carpet as you pull it across the floor and causes the carpet to stretch. It is difficult to get it back to normal once this has happened and requires professionals. If you need to move heavy furniture, lift it up and carry it rather than drag it.

Delamination Causes Carpet Bulging

Your carpet has two different backings that hold it together: the primary backing and the secondary backing. If the secondary backing pulls apart and detaches from the primary backing, it is known as delamination and can be the cause of buckling. This is causes by excessive moisture or water damage to your carpet as well as manufacturer’s defect.

Improper Carpet Installation

As the carpeting in your home is installed, the team of installers will be stretching your carpet extremely tight to ensure it doesn’t experience any buckling. If they didn’t stretch it enough, you will notice that there are small ripples in your carpet soon after you have it installed. When you purchase carpet, make sure the team that is installing it is using a power stretcher that will ensure it is stretched tight enough that you don’t experience any carpet buckling. If the carpet you have purchased was stored in a different climate than the one you live in, it needs to be acclimated before it is installed to avoid this problem as well.
