Whenever you walk into someone’s house there is a unique smell. As families live in a house the combination of their belongings and the items that they frequently use combine to create that unique smell. Some smells are nice and inviting while others can be quite offensive to your nose. One smell that is not very pleasant in a home is the smell of cigarette smoke. If you have the smell of cigarette smoke in your home there are some things that you will want to try to help get rid of the smell.

Air Home Out to Get Rid of Cigarette Odor

The first thing that you will want to do is air your home out. Open your doors and windows and keep them open for as long as possible. The temperature outside will probably determine how long you can keep your windows and doors open but try to do this as long as possible. The fresh air and sunshine will help get that smell moving out of your house. If you have fans or ceiling fans you will want to turn those on as well.

Clean Carpet to Get Smoke Smell Out

Next you will want to start cleaning the different areas that are likely trapping that smell inside of your home. One of the areas that retain that smoke smell is your flooring. Carpet is one of the biggest culprits for this. There a few different methods that can help with this. The first method requires some baking soda and a vacuum. Take baking soda and sprinkle it on your carpet. You can also sprinkle dried lavender on it with the baking soda. Let it sit on your carpet for 30 minutes. Then take your vacuum the baking soda up. You will want to vacuum very slowly and extremely thoroughly. If you do that and it still smells take two parts water to one part vinegar and mix it together in a spray bottle. Lightly spritz your carpet with the mixture. Let it dry and try vacuuming again. It is recommended that you follow those methods up with a professional cleaning. Carpet Care 2000 can come in and help get rid of the stubborn cigarette smoke smell that is left after you try those first two methods.

How to Get Cigarette Smoke Out of Couch

It doesn’t do any good to get rid of the smell from your carpet and live it lingering on other surfaces. You will want to clean a few other surfaces as well so that the smell does not just sneak back into your carpet. You will want to make sure that you wash anything that has a porous fabric fiber. This could include window coverings, blankets, bedding, pillows, and upholstery. Many times your upholstery will need a professional cleaning as well. Carpet Care 2000 can come out and clean your carpets and your upholstery in the same appointment.

Wipe Down Hard Surfaces in Home

Any plastic, wood, or vinyl blinds that may be in your home will likely smell like cigarette smoke as well. To clean those off clean them off with a soft cloth that you dipped in vinegar. Wash out your cloth frequently. Your house will indeed smell like vinegar for a few hours but it will help get the smell out of your house. You will not want to forget to clean your walls and ceilings either! Many people forget that cigarette smoke can be lingering on your walls and ceilings. Some people will actually repaint the interior of their house to get rid of the smell. The last thing that you will want to do is change your air filters and clean your air vents and ducts.

Tile and grout flooring is usually not too difficult for most to take care of. The basics including routinely cleaning the debris off the surface, periodically wiping up the spots and residues, and if needed, maintaining polishing, sealing, and other such needs. Due to the durability of tile and grout, as well as the simple maintenance involved, it is found in many rooms of the home, most commonly the kitchens and bathrooms among others. Keeping the tile and especially grout clean, can make people feel frustrated, however. When it comes to cleaning the tile and grout, you have quite a few options. With this in mind, we at Carpet Care 2000 would like to talk specifically about standard mopping versus steam mopping methods.

Standard Mop Bucket with Wringer

With a bottle of cleaner made for tile and grout, or a hot bucket of water and a mop, you are ready to wash the tile flooring. Though it mostly reflects individual preferences, there are quite a few standard mops available to consumers such as rope, flat mops, sponge type mops, dust mops, and so much more. Also, there are washing methods some prefer similar to mopping, and that is getting down on all fours and washing the floor by hand with a rag. In any case, it takes time and stamina.

How to Use a Steam Mop on Tiles?

Designed to accelerate the cleaning process and boost efficiency, steam mopping has been applied to cleaning purposes for quite some time. With the assorted models available, steam mopping offers more mobility and simplicity. Steam mopping not only washes the floors surface of obvious residues and spots, but it also eliminates the unseen germs. Killing up to 99.99% of bacteria that can cause a number of illnesses, the steam cleaning promotes temperatures that are hot enough. Generally, detergents are not typically added because they are not needed, making steam mopping more eco-friendly, safer and cost effective. This is especially ideal for children and pets as the chemicals can be harmful. The harmful chemicals are eliminated from the equation when using powerful steam cleaning mops.

Steam Mops are Hygienic & Other Benefits

– Steam mopping requires only one tool to haul around and use.
– Steam mopping kills the unseen germs that mopping just doesn’t do.
– More eco-friendly and far safer kids and pets.
– Detergents that are potentially harmful, and an added expense, is eliminated
– Steam mopping doesn’t require scrubbing.
– Steam cleaning uses less water, making the dry time less.
– Steam mopping models can be versatile with the right one, able to clean other hard surfaces as well as countertops and shower walls.

Benefits of Standard Mopping of Floors

– You need energy and more activity with standard mopping, ideal for people with energy to burn.
– Standard mops are inexpensive, but the cost is made up with buckets, detergents, and replacement heads.
– There are more scent options with detergents, where steam cleaning just leaves fresh and neutralizes any odors.

When you notice that Valentine’s Day has left behind some carpet stains, it is important that you know how to treat those areas and get rid of the stains as soon as possible. Carpet Care 2000 is here to talk about how to remove Valentine’s Day carpet stains from your carpet.

How to Clean Chocolate from Carpet

One of the easiest ways to remove chocolate from your carpet is with a simple ice cube. Because chocolate isn’t as runny as other liquids that you may spill on your carpet, it can be easier to remove too. Simply chill the chocolate with an ice cube and once it is hardened, you can use a spoon or butter knife to easily scrape the chocolate off the fibers of your carpet. If there is any of the chocolate lingering once you have scraped to remove it, you can use a small amount of carpet cleaner and cold water to remove the lingering stain.

How to Remove Dried Red Wine Stains from Carpet

Red wine can really set the mood for the perfect Valentine’s evening. When this dark liquid spills on your carpet or area rug, it can be a moment of panic. The key to getting rid of this stain, is to work quickly. You must blot the excess wine with a clean, white cloth first and foremost. Then mix two cups of cold water and one tablespoon of dish detergent to start removing the stain. You should always work from the outside in when dealing with red wine stains. If you aren’t crazy about using dish detergent, you can substitute that for white vinegar as well.

Removing Lipstick Off a Carpet

Lipstick will stain your carpet permanently if you aren’t careful and willing to work quickly. The first step in removing lipstick from carpet is with Goo-Gone. You will be able to remove the bulk of the lipstick with this product. Next, you will want to use a carpet cleaner that has a grease element in it. Because most lipstick is very oily, this is essential to removing it completely from your carpet.

How to Remove Wax from Carpet

Looking for the perfect setting for your dinner on Valentine’s Day? Candles are definitely helpful. That is, until they tip over and wax spills on your carpet. It is best to wait until the wax sets to remove it with a flat knife. If you can’t completely get rid of it, you can lay a white cloth on top of the stain and use an iron to transfer the wax to the cloth.

Passionate coffee drinkers have a tendency to reach for the warm soothing and stimulating cup of a fresh brew most mornings, especially when we ensure the cooler temperatures. The likelihood of the cup landing on your carpets is very possible, no matter if you prefer a cup or two, or three to get you started in the morning, or sip on the delicious beverage all day. React immediately should a coffee spill occur on your carpets, even if you are in a rush. Leaving coffee spills on your carpets for any duration of time will only make it harder to remove later, and the risk of odors to develop will only increase. Considering this, we at Carpet Care 2000 would like to share some steps on how to remove the coffee stain from your carpet.

How to Make Carpet Stains Vanish

1) Promptly blot the carpet spill. Blot up as much of the liquid as possible by using a clean cloth or a paper towel. Start your blotting sequence by working the outer rim and work towards the center; this helps contain the spill and prevent it from spreading outwardly. In the event the coffee stain is old, moderately dampen the area with a damp cloth or spray bottle and blot as you would a fresh spill.
2) Homemade mixture and application. Do not use hot water, mix 2 cups warm water, 1 tsp of white vinegar, and 1 tsp of liquid dish soap in a squirt bottle or bucket. Either sponge the mixture onto the coffee spill or spray it down with the mixture. Blot in between applications with a dry cloth and repeat until the spill is lifted.
3) Stay away from scrubbing and rubbing carpet. Do not attack the spot and attempt to treat it by rubbing and scrubbing when you tend to the coffee spill. This technique will only push the coffee down deeper into the carpet padding, encourage the fibers absorb more coffee, and spread the coffee out wider. Use your fingers and use minimal pressure if you need to concentrate the cleaner into target fibers of the carpet.
4) Residual carpet stain. You can try combining baking soda and water in the event the coffee stains only lighten with the above method. Create few drops at a time to about a ½ cup of baking soda until the consistency is that of toothpaste. Apply the mixture to the coffee stain and let it dry. Vacuum the dried application once it is having fully dried, and any lingering odors should be removed along with the stain.

There are many things that go into carpet care. If you want your carpets to look beautiful, last for their potential lifespan or even more, and ensure they are in optimal condition and health, maintenance is essential. Maintenance includes professionally cleaning your carpets at least once a year, or more if needed, tending to the spills as soon as they occur or as soon as possible, and vacuuming your carpets on a routine basis. However, when it comes to vacuuming, what you may not realize is, there are some things that contribute to a proper vacuuming. Vacuuming is crucial to the overall care of your carpets. Dirt and debris bring down the indoor air quality, making carpets look dull, dingy, and faded as well as accelerate the deterioration. To ensure you maximize the dirt removal on your carpets, we at Carpet Care 2000 would like to share proper vacuuming techniques.

Use the Right Vacuum Cleaner

Not all vacuums are created equal. Even vacuums that have identical price tags will have different features and design. This will make the difference on how efficiently they vacuum. Some vacuums are engineered to handle lower-grain carpets, linoleum or synthetics, wood or tile floors, with ease and even eliminate some mopping. With other vacuums, the dirt and debris that is embedded can be extracted by penetrating into the fibers. The wrong kind of vacuums can be the cause of the floor being ineffectively vacuumed. Ensure you have the right vacuum with a quality filter.

How to Vacuum Professionally

Small toys, coins, paper clips, and other things too large for the vacuum should be picked up before you commence vacuuming. Objects bigger than dirt particles can potentially jam up the vacuum, causing damage to the vacuum and insufficiently picking up the debris. Start vacuuming at the farthest-away end of your floor and begin working your way back to the entrance. Pass back and forth slowly over each of lane of the carpet, over lapping as you make a new pass and go in the other direction, back and forth until every inch of the carpet has been vacuumed. This technique will ensure that you get the majority of the dirt and debris on the carpets.

Vacuum Carpet Often

Another primary element to keeping your carpets cleaner is not only a thorough vacuuming, but to make sure it gets done frequently. Carpets that are high foot traffic areas, or people with pets, and those that have allergies or asthma should ensure their carpets are vacuumed no less than once a week, but daily is optimal. Infrequently used carpets can get by with a vacuuming once a week but the more the better. The cleaner your carpet will remain, and the better your overall at-home health will be is dictated by regularly vacuuming your home, and the more the better.

There are a number of carpet cleaning methods used by professionals. The most popular methods are steam and dry carpet cleaning. However, many homeowners prefer the steam cleaning method and see it as superior among all the other carpet cleaning methods. For those who don’t know how steam cleaning works, Carpet Care 2000 will explain the way steam cleaning works, its many benefits, and why it is becoming one of the most popular methods of carpet cleaning.

How the Best Carpet Cleaning Method Works

As the name suggests, steam cleaning uses steam, or vaporized water to clean the carpets. A specialized vacuum cleaner recreates heat from water that is injected into the carpet. When the heat meets the carpet fibers, it breaks down the dirt as well as the contaminants within the carpets. This make removing the dirt easier. Dry steam is then used which collects the dirt and other particles up and out of the carpets. The steam can also kill a number of germs and bacteria living inside. As expected, this makes the carpet just as clean as it looks. The technology behind steam cleaning is simple but also effective.

Benefit of Steam Cleaning Carpets

Carpet Stain & Dirt Removal – The heat vapor is an excellent way to remove and extract dirt and other stains. The vapor can reach deep into the carpet, not only cleaning the surface, but cleans deep within the carpet. This helps when removing stains and makes the entire carpet look cleaner.
Kills Bacteria & Carpet Pests – Many homeowners never know that pests and bacteria is thriving inside their carpets. Dust mites thrive in rugs and carpets. Now, dust mites are simply part of life. Where there is people, you will find dust mites. However, when dust mite populations explode, it can lead to indoor allergies. You can help keep dust mites in check by steam cleaning the carpets which can kill both dust mites and their eggs. There are other carpet pests as well, such as a species of beetle or moth that can actually feed and eat the carpet fibers, leaving nasty bald spots. To make sure your carpet doesn’t get infested with carpet damaging pests, steam cleaning can kill the pests since most are sensitive to the heat. Other microorganisms such as bacteria and mold often can develop inside carpets which can become a major health concern. When you want your carpets to actually be as clean as they look, steam cleaning is an answer. Steam cleaning can also treat carpets of bacteria and viruses.
Reduces Indoor Allergies – The many sources of indoor allergies is contained in the home air ducts and the carpets. Carpets can easily hold in dirt, pollen and house pests which can lead to indoor pollutants. Steam cleaning can sterilize the carpet, removing and killing any source of pollutants which leads to indoor allergies. Steam cleaning often doesn’t require any chemicals which ensures there is no chemical reaction and is a clean and safe method of cleaning carpets.

The right area rug will often be the finishing touch to a beautiful space. If you don’t make the right rug choice and choose the wrong placement, an area rug can look all wrong though. There are several dos and don’ts that come with area rugs and Carpet Care 2000 is here to make sure you don’t make any key mistakes while choosing the right rug for your space.

Choose Large Area Rugs

When choosing your area rug, keep in mind that going bigger is always a good idea. Ideally, you want the area rug to extend under the furniture in the room. At the very least, the front legs of all the furniture should be on the rug. Choosing a rug that is too small for a space will look funny and unfinished. It can also make the space feel unbalanced. It may be tempting to choose a smaller area rug, especially when you see the price tag on several rugs. The bigger, the more expensive they are. Just think of you area rug as an investment and spend the extra money for a good sized rug. You won’t regret it.

Area Rug Placement

Placing your rug in the right spot is a big deal. If you don’t have balance in a space, it will through the entire design off. After you have placed your rug in the room, you should have equal space on all sides of it. Most people shoot for 18 inches all the way around the rug. If you have a small room, sometimes you can get away with less if the rug is the right color.

Cover All High Traffic Areas with Rug

If you are placing your area rug in an area that gets a high amount of traffic, make sure the rug is completely covering the high traffic area. When people are walking through the room, it is awkward to have on foot on and one foot off the rug. This will also leave unusual wear patterns on your rug as well.

Area Rug Under Dining Table

There are some areas that may seem tempting to put your favorite area rugs. Places like the dining room are not areas that you want an expensive area rug. Choose less expensive rugs for these areas that are prone to many spills and heavy wear.

Don’t Be Afraid of Area Rug Color & Pattern

If you are looking for a way to bring color and pattern into your space, the right area rug may be the way to do it. Choosing bold colors and patterns can bring a lot of design into an otherwise boring space.
