Any time that you make a change in your home it is best to do your homework. It does not matter if you are making a small change to just one room in your home or a change that will affect the majority of your house, doing your homework will give you the best success rate. Maybe you are just starting the process of replacing the carpet in your home. Carpet Care 2000 has done some of your research for you. Keep on reading for some great carpet buying tips.

Carpet Product & Installation Cost

The first thing you will need to do is know how much the project is going to cost before you get started. Nothing is worse than getting halfway through a project just to realize that you cannot afford to complete it. In addition to the carpet purchase you will have installation costs. Carpet Care 2000 offers carpet installation so if you give us as call we can come out and give you a quote on installation prices. You will want to measure the areas that you will be putting carpet in so that you know how many square feet you will need carpet and padding for. Once you know how much installation is you should be able to determine how much money you have left for your carpet and padding purchase.

Choosing Carpet Material, Brand, Color, Pile & More

Step number two is selecting the carpet and padding that you want in your home. Every home has different needs when it comes to carpet and padding. You will want to consider what the room that you are carpeting is used for. What is the traffic like in the carpeted areas? Does the room receive a lot of sunlight during the day? Is there a significant change in natural lighting throughout the day? Is the area next to your outside doors or is it connected to mainly indoor areas? How often am I realistically going to vacuum my carpet? All of these things will be factors when deciding what type of carpet and padding are the best fit for your home. After you have answered the questions above you are ready to decide what kind of carpet fiber you want your carpet to be made out of. Most carpet samples have the fiber content listed on the back of the sample. There are five fibers that most carpets are typically made of: wool, nylon, polypropylene, polyester, and triexta. Each different type of fiber has a unique set of characteristics that go with them. Which fiber you choose will depend on your individual home. In addition to the carpet fiber there are also different cut piles. The density of carpet tufts and the amount of twist that is in the fiber will all factor into cut and loop piles. When you are trying to decide what type of carpet you like you may not even realize that you are consistently drawn to one particular type of cut or loop pile. One of the largest mistakes that homeowners make when installing carpet is skimping on the carpet padding. Many people incorrectly assume that if they purchase nice carpet that the padding does not have to be as nice. The padding is what helps make your carpet more comfortable and more durable. We recommend purchase a nice padding for your carpet for optimum look, feel, and performance from your carpet.

When customers walk into your business, you want it to make a good first impression. Dirty carpets can have a negative impact on your business. A clean business will attract repeat customers and will make your carpet last longer. Restaurants and retail stores are popular commercial clients because of the heavy foot traffic that enters and exits. Many businesses will use the same excuses as to why they’ve neglected their carpets. But there are very good reasons to have it done regularly.

Reasons Your Business Might Fail to Schedule Carpet Cleaning

1. Businesses claim they are planning to replace carpet. Many businesses that are planning on replacing the carpet eventually will neglect the carpet that is there already. It is tempting to simply rip the old carpet out and install new carpet, but maybe the current carpet just needs a little TL. Hiring a commercial cleaning company to have your carpets cleaned might be all it needs to look like new again.
2. Businesses will say carpet was cleaned just last year. Some carpets need to be cleaned more than once a year to keep it looking great. Most offices have high traffic areas that will wear down if they are neglected. This means it may need to be cleaned monthly. Businesses can’t use the excuse that the carpets were cleaned a year ago.
3. Businesses will say carpet cleaning is not in the budget. Many businesses stay on a tight budget to remain successful. Remember, first impressions are important so it’s important to make regular carpet cleaning a part of the budget. It may be tempting to use a company that offers a lower price, but this can mean poor quality products with improper tools. You’ll be unhappy with the results and end up spending money sooner to have them cleaned again. Invest in an experienced company for the best results. There’s always room in the budget and it’s worth every penny!
4. Businesses will say carpet doesn’t look dirty. Just because it looks okay, doesn’t mean it is. Looks can be deceiving. Many times, the dirt in your carpets can’t be seen. Once you do notice dirt, your carpets are really dirty and have needed to be cleaned for some time. Waiting for it to look dirty is not a good idea.
5. Businesses will say they clean their own carpets. Vacuuming is simply not enough. It can’t remove trapped pollutants. Carpets should be hot water extracted without soapy products that can leave a residue behind. Residue just attracts more dirt. Your carpets will look good, but shortly after, they will look dirtier than they did before you had them cleaned.

When it comes to keeping your home clean, many people have trouble keeping their tile and grout sanitary. Tile is widely used inside our homes today. You can easily find tile in bathrooms, the kitchen and on almost any other floor. Depending on where the tile is located it is often exposed to different types of filth. For example, tile in the kitchen gets cooking oils and grease stuck in the grout and on the tile. In bathrooms the tile is often corroded with soap scum or mildew and mold. Carpet Care 2000 would like to help you today in your battle against soap scum and share how you can keep your tile clean and free of soap scum.
&nbsp:

How to Clean Years of Soap Scum

Soapy residue will occur over time which is often referred to as soap scum. Soap scum can be difficult to remove once it takes hold of your tile and gets stuck in the grout. Depending on the tile texture, both the tile and grout make for a perfect net to hold on to the soap residue and other hygiene products where they build up on the side of the shower or in other areas of the bathroom. There are many promising soap scum removers out on the market, some of which use harsh chemicals to dissolve and weaken the soap scum. This makes it easier to scrub away. However, you can have the same amount of success with homemade cleaners that don’t use harsh or abrasive chemicals. For those who like more natural cleaners, one mixture you can make is a vinegar and liquid dish soap base cleaner.

Homwmade Shower Soap Scum Cleaner

To remove the soap scum on your tile and in the grout start by warming 1 cup of white wine vinegar in the microwave until it is hot. Pour the hot vinegar into a spray bottle and then mix it with 1 cup of liquid dish soap such as Dawn. Gently swirl to mix the two together. With your mixture in hand spray it on the tile and in the tub or on the sink where you need help fighting soap scum. After spraying the mixture on the soap scum let it sit for about 30 minutes. With a scrubbing pad scrub the soap scum away and then rinse. Don’t worry the vinegar smell will go away within a short period of time. To help quicken the process you can turn on the exhaust fan or open a window.

DIY VS Professional Tile and Grout Cleaning

Many people will do their own house cleaning. However, there are times when they may find they need help. There are a number of professional tile and grout cleaning services that can come and clean the grout, and polish and clean the tile and even help seal the tile to make maintenance cleaning easier. Professional tile and grout cleaning services can clean your floors, siding and even counter tops. Anywhere where tile is used can be cleaned which helps renew and protect the tile.

Being a doctor is an amazing profession! Doctors have the opportunity to help people each and every day that they go to work. When you go to medical school you learn all about how to help heal people but you do not learn very much about how to handle the business aspect of your practice. Today Carpet Care 2000 has some suggestions on how to attract people to your medical practice that we have learned from interacting with many successful doctors that we have cleaned carpets for over the years.

Know Target Audience for Health Care Practice

Every practice will have a different target audience that they are trying to reach. An orthodontist will not be trying to market to the same demographic as a urologist. You will want to know who your target audience is for your practice. Once you have decided who you are going to market to you will be able to decide how best to reach them.

Best Medical Practice Websites

One of the next things you will want to do is make sure your website is easy to use and mobile friendly. Many older practices do not have current websites that are easy to access from your phone. There are lots of people that do not go online from anywhere but their phone very often so you want to make sure that your website is mobile. Once people are on your website they need to be able to find information easily. Your website should help your patients/future patients make an informed decision on whether your practice is a good fit for them or not.

Social Media Strategy for Healthcare

Next you will want to utilize social media to help market your practice. Many doctors are not sure what to put on their social media accounts for their businesses. Highlighting your employees helps your patients feel connected to your staff before they even come in the door. You can also use your social media accounts to talk briefly about the services that you provide. Let your patients really get a feel for your practice stands for through these accounts.

Community Service in Medical Field

If your practice participates in any kind of community service you will want to let your patients know! Maybe you participate in local events that they can attend; provide medical services on a volunteer basis; or give back to the community through the local school system. Your patients will love knowing that you take the time and money to give back to their community.

Medical Office Customer Service Tips

After you have convinced people that your practice is the right fit for them you need to make sure that they have a wonderful experience while they are in the office. You will want your employees to provide excellent customer service to all of your patients. Remember that if someone has a good experience at your practice studies show that they will tell four people about it who could potentially become patients as well. If they have a negative experience though they will tell ten people about it. Those ten people will likely not consider coming to your practice if their friends had a bad experience there.

Many households have one or more members of their family that have dealt with bed wetting. It is definitely not something that anyone wants to deal with personally. People that wet the bed often are embarrassed by their actions. Another part of bed wetting that can be hard to deal with is cleaning up after the accident occurs. If you are the unlucky one that has to clean urine off of your mattress Carpet Care 2000 has some tips for you on how to get the urine out of your mattress.

How to Get Fresh Pee Out of Mattress

If you catch the urine right away you will want to use this first method. If the urine has already had a chance to set in at all you will want to use the next method that we outline. As long as the mattress is still wet this method should work wonders on your mattress. Grab white vinegar, spray bottle, baking soda, some towels, and a vacuum and take it to the room where your mattress is. Then remove all of the bedding from your mattress. You will want to wash your bedding in your washing machine right away. In your spray bottle mix together a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Take a clean towel and blot the urine out of the mattress. Make sure that you do not scrub. Scrubbing will push the urine even further into your mattress. After you have blotted most of the urine out get your spray bottle out. Spray the white vinegar and water mixture generously over the area. Let it sit for a few minutes. Next blot the excess liquid with a clean towel. Get your baking soda out next. Cover the wet area on your mattress and cover it with baking soda. Now just let the baking soda sit. We recommend that you let it sit for 8-10 hours. After you have let it sit get your vacuum out and vacuum up the baking soda. When you inspect the area if you see any staining or some odor left behind you can repeat this process.

How to Clean Dried Urine from Mattress

Sometimes we not lucky enough to catch the urine accident when it happens. If this is the case the urine is already set into your mattress, along with the odor. You will need hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, spray bottle, vacuum, and liquid dish soap. You can also use essential oils for a refreshing scent if you want to but they are optional. In your spray bottle you will add 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons baking soda, 3 drops of liquid dish soap, and 5 drops of essential oil if you choose to add that in. Spray a generous amount of this mixture over any visible stains. Let the mixture sit on your mattress until it is dry. A layer of baking soda will form as it sits. Once the mixture is dry vacuum the residue off of your mattress. If the stain or odors remain you can repeat this process as many times as it is necessary.

If you own rental homes, apartments or a commercial business, you know how fast carpets can get dirty. You also know how important it is that they are clean and presentable. Did you know that if you allow your carpets to get too dirty, you could be facing lawsuits though? It’s true. When you don’t care for your carpets as you should, you could be facing liabilities that you may not be aware of. Carpet Care 2000 is here to talk about some of the liabilities that come with dirty carpet.

High Amounts of Germs & Bacteria in Dirty Carpet

One uncomfortable truth about dirty carpets is the amount of bacteria that is living in the fibers. The bacteria found in dirty carpet can cause a higher risk of health problems for those living there or around them often. This is especially the case for those that have weakened immune systems or are elderly. If you suffer from asthma, the microbes known as mycotoxins found in dirty carpet can cause worsening symptoms of asthma. Even those that are perfectly healthy can start to show signs of illness as their immune system works on overdrive in an effort to protect them from harmful bacteria. When your carpets are kept clean and professionally cleaned on a regular basis, these problems are less likely to be an issue.

Dog & Cat Pet Urine Stains & Odors

Pet urine doesn’t just make the space smell awful, but it can lead to problems for those that are living in conditions with untreated pet urine stains on carpet. This is usually a bigger problem for those that own rental properties, but businesses that allow pets can have this issue as well. When there are untreated pet urine stains on carpet, especially cat urine, it contains a high amount of ammonia in it. Those with allergies, COPD and emphysema can have worsened symptoms and serious health problems because of it.

Rotted Subfloor from Dirty Carpet

Over time dirt, dust and other debris start to wear down the fibers of your carpet. Not only does it have an effect on your carpet fibers, but the subfloor underneath the carpet pad as well. If you decide to sell your business and the subfloor is in bad condition, it can stand in the way of the transaction. A subfloor is poor condition can also lead to falling accidents which can fall on the owner for neglecting the flooring.

When flooding occurs in your home and gets all over your carpet, you have to move quickly. Carpet can be recovered after flooding. However, you don’t want water to sit too long or mold and bacteria can begin to develop. This creates a hazardous zone within your home. When your home and carpet gets flooded, Carpet Care 2000 will walk you through the steps to recover your home and carpets after a flood.

Shut Off or Stop Water at the Source

When you discover that your home has just been flooded, first determine the source of the water. You may need to turn off the water supply to your home to stop the flooding and repair the source. Next you will want to begin taking out the furniture. You will want to wash small rugs and curtains. You will also want to clear the room out to begin recovering the carpet.

Remove Water from a Flooded Room

Depending on the location of the flood and how severe the flooding was, you will need to extract the water. Not everyone has a water pump or water extraction equipment on hand. Therefore you should seek out professional help versus renting or buying all of the equipment needed to recover your home after a flooding. The water will need to be pumped out or extracted first.

Dry Wet Carpet Fast

After the majority of the water has been pumped out, it is recommended you use fans and dehumidifiers to begin drying out the room and the carpet. Before cleaning the carpet, the carpet and the subfloor needs to be dried out. Often a professional service will use dehumidifiers and fans to dry out the carpet. They may even open windows to help air out the room and filter any bacteria or spores that may be in the air.

Carpet Cleaner & Deodorizer

After the carpet is completely dried then the carpet will be clean and treated. A strong cleaning solution is used to kill any mold, mildew or bacteria that may have possibly been born from the flooding. The carpet will undergo a thorough carpet cleaning and once again is dried using fans and dehumidifiers. If upholstery was affected by the flooding, it too should be cleaned and treated for mold and possible bacteria.

Should Carpet Be Replaced After Water Damage?

Depending on the source of the flood it may be better to replace the carpet versus restoring the carpet after a flood. Essentially, if the water was from a backed up sewer line and the water came out of the sewer, this can be a major problem if you want to restore the carpet. Due to the high levels of contamination in the water it can be difficult to recover the carpet or deem the carpet safe.

How to Prevent Mold After Water Damage

Mold can develop within 24 hours after the flooding has occurred and depending on the source of the flooding, hazardous mold can occur. When flooding first occurs it is important to act quickly to ensure your home remains safe. When flooding occurs it is also recommended to seek out professional help. A professional service can come and act quickly. They have all of the tools and equipment needed to restore your home and carpet after a flood. With a professional carpet restoration service they can extract the water from the carpet, cleaning and treating as well as deodorizing the carpet.

Water damage is one of the most common causes of damage in U.S. homes. Not only is water damage an inconvenience to homeowners, depending on the type of water that has breached your home or how long it has been standing, it can be dangerous to you and your family’s health. When you experience water damage in your home, one of the most important aspects of getting it cleaned up is how quickly you can get the water removed from your home. The faster you act, the more likely you are to save your floors, walls and personal possessions. We here at Carpet Care 2000 care about getting your home back to normal again. To help you in doing so, we will explain the different types of water damage and whether the type of damage can be cleaned, or needs replacing.

Types of Water Damage; Category 1, 2 & 3

There are several ways one can experience water damage in their home. Some examples are; flooding from storms, water overflow from sinks, tubs, toilets or dishwashers, or from pipes bursting. Determining a plan of action will first require identifying the type of water that has infiltrated your home. Following are the types of water damage.
Category 1 Water Damage– This is the simplest type of water damage to clean and have repaired. Water in this category typically comes from an uncontaminated source or a “clean water” supply. This type of water can come from broken water supply lines or from tub/sink overflows. It is of utmost importance to ensure water from a Category 1 flood gets cleaned up within 48 hours to avoid it progressing to a category 2 or 3 level.
Category 2 Water Damage– Classified as “Gray water” , this type of water damage is considered as on that would make you sick or cause discomfort if exposed to. It contains biological, chemical or physical contaminants that are harmful to your health. This type of water can come from overflowed toilets with no urine or feces involved, sump pump failure or contaminated water from a discharge drain from a dishwasher or washing machine. If not cleaned up quickly, category 2 water can quickly turn to a category 3.
Category 3 Water Damage– Classified as “Black Water”, this water is considered grossly contaminated with harmful pathogens, bacteria and/or fungi. This level of damage is the worst you can have and is considered dangerous and harmful to even be around. If a level 3 water damage happens in your home, anything the water has touched will be considered contaminated and unsalvageable. Black water comes from sources such as, sewage, ground surface, or standing water from floods, or overflow from rivers, streams or oceans. It can also be from category 1 or 2 water damage that was left to sit too long. Clean up of a category 3 water contamination requires a team of professionals to clean out the premises with personal protective equipment including air purifying respirators. During this time, nobody except the clean up crew will be permitted in the dwelling until all contaminated items are discarded and the home sanitized and cleaned out.

The faster you get things cleaned up the better. When it comes to water damage, the longer water is allowed to stay standing, the more damage will be caused. For level 1 or 2 contamination, you must call your insurance agent and clean up crew in no more than 24-48 hours, but the sooner the better. Failure to do so may result in your insurance company refusing to honor your claim. To learn more about this, look into your insurance policy to see exactly what type of coverage you opted for. Carpet Care 2000 has years of experience cleaning and restoring water damaged properties. If you find yourself dealing with this unfortunate circumstance, call us as soon as possible. We’ll be glad to help!
