You want to be able to keep your carpets looking their best and that is why you want to have plans to clean these spills and spots. One of the spots you might get on your carpet that will really send you worrying is gum. That is right chewed up, sticky gum stuck on your carpet. There are lots of ways that chewed gum can end up in your house and on your carpet. We have been walking around outside on a hot day and stepped in gum only to have it stretch out and make a mess. Now that same gum comes in on your shoe and on the carpet. You can also have a toddler that got into your purse and chewed some gum only to spit it out on the carpet. Gum is a very tricky substance to get off your carpet and that is why you need to have some tricks on the best way to do it. Carpet Care 2000 offers some helpful tips to get gum of your carpets.

How to Get Gum Out of Carpet with Peanut Butter

You can use the tried and true method of moms all over. If a child gets gum in their hair they pull out a jar of peanut butter. The peanut butter has enough oil content that it will start to break down the gum and allow you to pick it up. The same process can be used on your carpets as well. You want to make sure that you do not over use the peanut butter but enough to break down the gum. You can massage it into the area and as it breaks up pick it up with paper towels. This can be repeated if necessary. Once you are done with the peanut butter method you will need to then clean the actual peanut butter off as well. This can be done with warm water and mild dish soap.

Removing Gum from Carpet with Ice

If you want to avoid the peanut butter method you can use ice instead. The method works best when you place some ice cubes in a plastic sealable bag. Then you want to place the bag over the area and allow it to freeze the gum. Then you can work with the gum while it is hard. You can clip it away from the carpet and pick it off. Be sure that you trash the pieces that are broken off into the garbage. Then you can follow up with the same follow up cleaning.

Use Heat to Clean Gum from Carpet

You also can use heat to treat the gum. The heat can come from your blow dryer and you want to heat the area up. Then you can pull the gum while it is soft away from the fibers and remove the majority of it. You want to be careful that you are not letting the sticky gum spread any further across the carpet.
