Passionate coffee drinkers have a tendency to reach for the warm soothing and stimulating cup of a fresh brew most mornings, especially when we ensure the cooler temperatures. The likelihood of the cup landing on your carpets is very possible, no matter if you prefer a cup or two, or three to get you started in the morning, or sip on the delicious beverage all day. React immediately should a coffee spill occur on your carpets, even if you are in a rush. Leaving coffee spills on your carpets for any duration of time will only make it harder to remove later, and the risk of odors to develop will only increase. Considering this, we at Carpet Care 2000 would like to share some steps on how to remove the coffee stain from your carpet.
How to Make Carpet Stains Vanish
1) Promptly blot the carpet spill. Blot up as much of the liquid as possible by using a clean cloth or a paper towel. Start your blotting sequence by working the outer rim and work towards the center; this helps contain the spill and prevent it from spreading outwardly. In the event the coffee stain is old, moderately dampen the area with a damp cloth or spray bottle and blot as you would a fresh spill.
2) Homemade mixture and application. Do not use hot water, mix 2 cups warm water, 1 tsp of white vinegar, and 1 tsp of liquid dish soap in a squirt bottle or bucket. Either sponge the mixture onto the coffee spill or spray it down with the mixture. Blot in between applications with a dry cloth and repeat until the spill is lifted.
3) Stay away from scrubbing and rubbing carpet. Do not attack the spot and attempt to treat it by rubbing and scrubbing when you tend to the coffee spill. This technique will only push the coffee down deeper into the carpet padding, encourage the fibers absorb more coffee, and spread the coffee out wider. Use your fingers and use minimal pressure if you need to concentrate the cleaner into target fibers of the carpet.
4) Residual carpet stain. You can try combining baking soda and water in the event the coffee stains only lighten with the above method. Create few drops at a time to about a ½ cup of baking soda until the consistency is that of toothpaste. Apply the mixture to the coffee stain and let it dry. Vacuum the dried application once it is having fully dried, and any lingering odors should be removed along with the stain.
