You’re sitting on your couch and enjoying a nice morning cup of coffee and you accidently drop your cup. There is always that first thought of panic because one of the hardest spills to get out of carpet is a coffee spill. If there is a one kind of spill that needs to be treated quickly it is when a coffee is spilled. The longer the spill has to sit around the harder that it will be to clean it. There are elements of a coffee spill that can make the problem worse and that is when the cup of coffee has cream or milk added to it. The milk or cream can set up and cause bacteria to grow and fester. When the bacteria sets in it can also lead to the area smelling terrible. Carpet Care 2000 has come up with some steps on how to clean the stain properly.
How to Clean Coffee Spills from Carpet
Step 1: This first step is the same as with any kind of spill on a carpet. You need to act quickly and get a cloth to blot, not scrub, the spill to remove any excess liquid. Do not rub the stain because this can cause the coffee to get pushed down into the carpet fibers and the padding.
Step 2: Spot testing is the next step. Now that you have taken time to remove the excess liquid you can use a minute to spot test an area that is not seen often such as a closet. This will tell you that whatever cleaner you are using will not damage the carpet or rug.
Step 3: This is where you will be learning how to make the actual cleaning product that can be used to get a coffee stain out. You want to start with about 2/3 cup of water that has been warmed. Then to the water add a 1/3 cup of vinegar and stir it together. The last addition is to use a teaspoon of liquid dish soap to the cleaner. Once you have this mixture prepared you can use a spray bottle to put on the area.
Step 4: Repeat the process. It will not always come out on the first go around so you may need to repeat the cleaning process several times.
