This past Christmas, millions of girls had nail polish and makeup on their wish list. Do any of these girls reside in your home? If they do, you will probably want to make sure that you have some rules in place to help make sure that that nail polish and make-up stay on their bodies instead of on your carpet. Carpet Care 2000 has some tips for you today on how you can keep that nail polish and make-up off of your carpet.

Talk to Kids About what Can Cause Carpet Stains

Some of the precautionary tips that we are going to talk about today may seem like common sense but we promise you will be grateful that you take the time to your kids about it. The first thing that you will want to do is make sure that you kids know that nail polish and make-up can stain carpet and other surfaces if they are not careful. Kids do not always understand that nail polish and make-up do not come off surfaces that they are not intended for. Taking the time to explain it to them is definitely an important step.

Don’t Apply Beauty Products in Rooms with Carpet

Once they know and understand that nail polish and make-up does stain carpet and other surfaces you will want to set up some rules for them to follow when they go use their nail polish and make-up. One rule that you may want to establish is that nail polish and make-up are only used in certain places in the house. You may want to say that make-up needs to stay in the bathroom. Make-up will almost always come off the surfaces that are in your bathroom so this rule is a great one! With nail polish you may want to consider a rule that nail polish does not go on the carpet at all.

Remove Nail Polish & Makeup Spills on Carpet Right Away

Unfortunately, not even the best of kids follows each and every rule that they are given. It is simply inevitable that your kids will not follow some of the rules that you set-up regarding nail polish and make-up usage. If this happens at your home you may end up with some nail polish and make-up stains on your carpet. What on earth do you do if this happens? The very best thing that you can do to get your carpet clean is to act quickly. Make sure that your kids know that they should come and tell you immediately if they have spilled nail polish and make-up on your carpet. The longer that the nail polish and make-up sit on your carpet the harder it is to get out.

Did you recently install new carpets? Or are you looking for ways to prevent carpet damage and extend the life of your older carpets? When you want to maintain the life of your home’s carpets there are a few steps you can take. Carpet can become stretched out, develop holes, bald spots and soiling. To prevent stains and other damages to the carpet, Carpet Care 2000 will share what steps you can take to extend the life of your home’s carpets.

Carpet Protector Mats, Rugs & Runners

One of the first types of carpet damage to occur is wear patterns due to high foot traffic. High foot patterns will cause flattened pathways in the carpet which is often accompanied with soiling. High foot traffic literally thins out the carpet over time. To reduce the effects of high foot traffic damage on your home’s carpet, it is often recommended to use rugs. Using rugs in hallways and in the living room often helps to reduce soiling and thinning of the carpet. The rugs also help to prevent the carpet from getting dirty as the rugs will capture much of the dirt that tracks into the home. Additionally, have door mats at every exterior door to reduce the amount of dirt that comes deeper into the home.

Enforce No shoes on Carpets in House Rule

Another easy way to reduce carpet damage to the carpet is by never wearing shoes on the carpet. Shoes bring in dirt and much more. Additionally, shoes with rough treads, or high heels can damage the carpets. Shoes bring in debris and dirt that gets trapped in the carpet pile. People also tend to dig the shoes’ tread into the carpet when they walk, stand up, or play on the carpet. Consider having a shoe rack by the door to help remind the household members to take their shoes off at the door.

Move Heavy Furniture on Carpet with Sliders & Use Pads to Protect Carpets

To prevent stretching or rippling from occurring on the carpet, never drag heavy furniture or objects across the carpet. Yes, sometimes you may need to move the couch over a little bit to vacuum underneath it. However, dragging furniture across carpet can cause stretching and even rips and tears in the carpets. When furniture needs to be moved, have someone help pick up the furniture. In addition, it is recommended to prevent indents and holes in the carpets, use furniture pads to help protect the carpet. Many people will also use coasters or old carpet pieces for pads.

Carpet Stain Repellent

As stains can be impossible to prevent, most homeowners will rush to clean stains as they occur. While it is essential to clean stains and spills quickly, vacuuming the carpet weekly can help combat stains while using stain repellents. A professional carpet cleaning service often provides stain repellents. A stain repellent doesn’t completely stop spills or stains from seeping into the carpet, but they do provide the homeowner with more time and better success in preventing a stain from occurring. For households with pets and smaller children, stain repellents are highly recommended.

As much as we love our furry family members, they can really make a mess in our homes. From having potty accidents to pet dander and vomit, you may find yourself cleaning up after them more than once. Today, we could like to talk about the best ways to remove vomit stains from your carpet. Carpet Care 2000 has the experience and expertise needed to provide you with the steps necessary to get rid of any trace of vomit that your pet may have left you on your carpet.

How to Clean Fresh Pet Vomit From Carpet

It is always ideal if you can get to a vomit stain right after it happens. Unlike children or other family members, pets don’t always make a big fuss when they are vomiting. You may not notice that they have thrown up until many hours later. If you do by chance get to it while it is fresh, follow these steps to remove it from your carpet.
– Remove any chunks with a spoon or other similar tool.
– Dilute either hydrogen peroxide or white distilled vinegar with some tap water and spray it on the spot. Make sure you are only using one or the other and not both of those ingredients.
– Using a clean, white cloth, blot the stain until you have removed it completely. You may have to follow the previous step and this step more than once to get it completely gone.

Old Vomit Remover from Carpet

When you aren’t able to catch pet vomit right after it happens, you may be dealing with a stain and odor that is more difficult to remove. While vinegar is still helpful in removing it, you will need to add baking soda to give it the punch it needs to knock out the odor as well as remove the stain. You will want to completely cover the stain with a decent amount of baking soda and then spray enough of your vinegar or peroxide mixture that the baking soda is saturated. Now the most important thing to do is to wait until the baking soda is completely dried before vacuuming it up. If there is any stain that is lingering, you will want to repeat the process.

Patch Test Before Cleaning Vomit Stains on Carpet

It is important to note that before you use any new cleaning solution on your carpet, you need to test it on an inconspicuous area to ensure it isn’t going to damage your carpet. Only proceed to clean the area after you have tested and found that no damage is present.

There are lots of stains that you might end up dealing with on your carpets. Your carpets are something you want to keep clean and that can be a difficult task. The problem is that you have to live in the house and that means what you pick up outside can make it in. You also are going to eat, drink and have some fun in the house. That can cause stains and spills and the issue is that it can be hard to know the best technique to use to remove them. Many of the stains can use the same procedure to get them out but there are also a few that have a different method. When it comes to mud it is one of the ones that you need to know what to do. The mud can come in on the bottom of your shoes after a rain storm or on your dogs paws. You want to make sure that you use the correct method or it can make it worse. Carpet Care 2000 outlines what you can do to get mud out of your carpets.

When to Clean Mud Off Carpet

When it comes to cleaning a stain off your carpets the most common thought is that you need to get to it fast. You have to stop what you are doing and get the supplies out to remove the stain. This is where cleaning a mud stain differs the most. If you start to clean the mud when it is wet it will be quite difficult. The stain can start to get larger and it may not be removed. What you want to do is block off the area and allow the mud to dry out. Then you are dealing with dry dirt and not water and dirt combined. This will make it much easier to remove from the carpet.

Pick Up Dirt Clumps & Rocks

Once you have allowed the mud to dry out you can start the cleaning method. The step that comes next is to remove the excess. When you have a stain that is full of moisture you can press with a clean cloth. When you have mud you want to get the trash can over and pick off as much of the chunks of mud as possible. They will dry out and create larger pieces that you can carefully remove from the carpet. .

Vacuum Dry Dirt from Carpet

Now that you have picked up the larger pieces you can use the vacuum to get as much debris off the carpet as you can. The vacuum will be able to get a lot of the mess removed for you and usually leave a small stain that may need to be treated. You can run the vacuum over the area a few times to ensure to get all that you can.

Clean Carpet Stain

The last step that you can take is to clean the spot with a mild cleaner. Mix warm water with a tablespoon of mild soap. You can use a clean cloth to dab around the area and repeat the process if necessary. Once the area is dry the carpet will be clean and looking great.

There is nothing like a room that has the perfect area rug to create design and style. Area rugs are great at pulling color and style into any space. With the many different area rug shapes, styles and colors that are available to you, it can be difficult to narrow it down to the perfect one. Carpet Care 2000 is here to share some tips to help you choose the perfect area rug to finish off your space.

Oval, Round, Square & Other Area Rug Shapes

It’s easy to forget that there are other options than a rectangle area rug. Don’t be afraid to think outside the rectangle box when you are choosing the right area rug for your home. There are round, oblong, square and even animal hide rugs that can all add beauty and design to your room.

Help with Area Rug Color

There is a simple 60-30-10 rule when it comes to the colors in your space. 60% of the color found in a space will be made up of things like the color on the walls and the flooring. 30% is where your area rug should fit in. This is the column that your area rug should fit into. You shouldn’t be afraid to add secondary colors to the space with your rug. This will help to pull the last 10% of the accent colors found in your accessories out.

Area Rug Patterns

It can be fun to incorporate bright patterns into your room with your area rug. There are so many rugs that have vivid patterns that can be as bold or as passive as you want them to be. It’s best to choose a calmer rug if you have loud patterned furniture or a louder wallpaper on the walls, but if you have neutrals everywhere else, the area rug is the perfect place to bring those patterns into the space.

High Traffic Entryway & Other Rugs

When you are picking out your ideal area rug, think about where you are putting it. If you will be placing this rug in an area that sees a heavy amount of traffic, you will want to choose a rug that has a low pile. For spaces that don’t see as much foot traffic, you can choose a higher pile rug. These higher pile rugs offer another level of comfort as they are usually extremely plush.

Area Rug Size

You don’t ever want to choose an area rug that is too small for a space. Generally speaking, the front legs of the furniture in the room should rest on the area rug for it to be the right size for the space. It is always better to go larger than smaller when you are choosing your area rug.

If you are hosting holiday parties you probably have a list of things to get done before all of your guests arrive. One thing that is likely on your to do list is get your home nice and clean. The hard thing about hosting is that your home may start out nice and clean but end up completely dirty before your guests leave. Hopefully your guests do not make too big of a mess though. One mess that many hosts find after holiday dinners is grease on carpet. Unfortunately many finger and other party foods are greasy and may end up on your carpet. Today Carpet Care 2000 is going to help give you some tips on how to get rid of these grease stains.

Best Grease Remover for Carpet

The first method that we will share with you today requires a dull knife, baking soda, and a vacuum. First you will want to take the dull knife and try to scrape as much of the grease off of your carpet as your can. You will want to scrape very gently so that you do not damage your carpet. After you have removed as much of the grease as possible you will need to grab your baking soda. Sprinkle some baking soda on the stained area. Then you want to leave the baking soda on the stained area for a minimum of one hour and a maximum of overnight. As the baking soda sits on the stain it will absorb the grease. The baking soda will also eliminate any odors that are on your carpet. Once you have allowed the baking soda to sit on your carpet you are going to get your vacuum and thoroughly vacuum the area. You will want to vacuum slowly and repeatedly. After you have vacuum you will want to clean any residue that might be left on the carpet using clean water and clean white cloth. If you do not have baking soda you can also use the same method outlined above but use cornstarch instead. The only downside is that cornstarch will not absorb the odors as well as baking soda will. Other than the process will work the same.

Other Methods for How to Get Grease Stains Out of Carpet

Other studies have reported that dish soap and vinegar work as well. The first step will be to use a dull knife to scrape as much grease as possible off of your carpet. Then you will mix some dish soap and vinegar together. Try this mixture out first in an area of carpet that is not noticeable. Vinegar may bleach out your carpet. If it does discontinue this method. If the mixture is fine on your carpet go ahead and move to the stained area. Spray it on the area and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Then use a clean white cloth and blot the area gently. Repeat until the stain comes out.

Your carpet may look clean but it’s probably a lot dirtier than you think. When dirt, bacteria, and allergens are continually stepped on, it drives them deeper and deeper into carpet fibers. The surface is easily cleaned by vacuuming, but the pollutants that lurk underneath will need to be removed with professional carpet cleaning. Even if you do vacuum regularly most vacuum cleaners aren’t powerful enough to extract debris that is deeply embedded or stuck to the fibers of your carpet. The problem becomes worse if you have high-pile carpet.

Hot Water Extraction Steam Carpet Cleaning

Almost all carpet manufactures recommend hot-water extraction to clean your carpets. They believe it’s the best method to get your carpets cleaned and looking like new again. The water is heated to high temperatures and mixed with cleaning solutions to kill bacteria on contact. The dust, dander and other allergens are then extracted with a powerful vacuum. Powerful suction also ensures your carpets dry quickly to prevent mold and mildew growth.

Remove Carpet Mites

Also known as dust mites, carpet mites are microscopic bugs that live in your carpet and each time you vacuum, they become airborne. They can irritate those that have allergies or breathing problems. The only way to completely remove carpet mites is through professional carpet cleaning.

Improve Indoor Air Quality

We all want to live in a home that is healthy and comfortable. When carpets are professionally cleaned on a regular basis you can make that happen. Mold, mildew, mites and other pollutants that stick to your carpet can also become airborne if they aren’t removed through professional cleanings. If you have pets you may also be dealing with dander, pet hair and dirt floating around. Not only do these aggravate allergies, they often have unpleasant odors.

Professional Cleaning Extends the Life of Your Carpet

Vacuum, spot or stain removal and professional carpet cleaning ensures you have beauty looking carpet for a long time. When you maintain your carpets, it will save you money in the long run because it reduces the frequency with which you need to replace it. This is more true if your home has a lot of foot traffic because your carpets will wear out even faster.

Overall Carpet Appearance

Your carpets can make a positive impression when you maintain them the right way. Added to the fact you will extend the life of your carpets you’ll also have carpets that look refreshed all the time. Carpets start to look dingy and dull as they experience foot traffic. Deep cleaning is the best way to reverse that dirty look. Removing dirt and grime can even restore the initial color of your carpet.
