How to Fix Bleach Spots

• DO NOT SCRUB! This is the worst thing you can do with any type of spill on your carpet. The only thing scrubbing does is spread the stain and cause more damage to the carpet fibers. You can even rip the fibers right out the carpet backing and turn the stain into a hole.
• Bleach is not a “color”. It’s actually a color-stripper that removes the tint from your carpet by eating away at it. Keeping that in mind, you can’t remove bleach from your carpet like other stains.
• Any bleach spot repair will be hit and miss.
• Steer clear of RIT dye because it will be hard to color match and it’s hard to control.
 

Homemade Bleach Spot Removal Fails

Hair dye. The internet may advise you to take a few carpet fibers to the store and try to match it as best as you can with hair dye. The hair dye will turn the carpet black but you may be advised not to panic because it’s part of the coloring process. You will likely be instructed to apply the dye and start blow drying right away to speed the process up until it’s dry, and simply hope for a perfect color match!
Acrylic paint. Depending on the size of your bleach spot and the color of your carpet, you may be tempted to try to cover the spot with acrylic paint. Unfortunately you risk the fibers becoming stiff and the paint colors not being a match.
Interior house paint. Again, the carpet will likely get very stiff and it’s likely you won’t get an exact match.
