The water that is used in steam cleaning is heated up to a very hot temperature and turned into steam. Before the steam is applied, a detergent is placed on the carpet and then the steam goes over the top. The steam activates the cleaning agent and it starts to clean the fibers. The real cleaning is after this process when there is usually water that is left on the carpets. The professional carpet cleaner will come behind the steam with a high pressure suction that will remove the excess water that is left behind from the steam. This will extract most of the water but you will need to wait for a while before you walk around on the freshly cleaned carpets.
Dry Carpet Cleaning: This is an option that you can use if you are concerned that you will need to wait a while before walking on the carpets. It’s a great option for commercial applications and also for hospitals and nursing homes. The dry cleaning option uses a cleaning agent and high pressure suction but no water so there is no wait time. The cleaner is added to the carpet and will start to break down any stains or spots. The cleaning agent can be sucked up with the professional grade vacuum and removed. The no wait time is a great benefit, but the cleaner can be quite harsh and leave an unpleasant odor behind that may take a while to remove from the carpet. It is also not a deep cleaning method like steam carpet cleaning.
