When red wine spills on the carpet it can leave a permanent stain as the red pigmentation is strong in wines. Soak Up Red Wine from Carpet
Regardless as to what method you use to clean red wine, you will still want to remove as much of the red wine as possible before you begin cleaning the carpet. When red wine spills on the carpet you will first want to get a white cloth and gently press on the spill. Next, pour table salt or talcum powder over the top of the spill. The salt or talcum will absorb much of the moisture from the wine out of the carpet. Remove the salt or talcum with a vacuum cleaner. From this point you will want to use your preferred stain cleaning method.
How to Use Club Soda to Remove Carpet Stains
For those who keep club soda handy, you can use a tablespoon of club soda and pour it onto a sponge. Dab the soaked sponge over the stain. You may need to repeatedly add club soda and dab at the stain. Be sure to rinse the site of the stain with plain water and blot with a dry cloth to remove the remaining club soda out of the carpet.
Vinegar & Ammonia to Remove Red Wine from Carpet
If you have vinegar and ammonia on hand, you will first use the ammonia. Mix the ammonia in a bowl with one cup of warm water. Use a white cloth and dab it into the mixture. You will want the cloth saturated, not just damp. Dab at the red wine stain with the diluted ammonia. The ammonia may not remove the stain completely. Get a new dry cloth and soak up the ammonia. Next, use plain white wine vinegar and soak a piece of the cloth with the vinegar and continue dabbing at the stain. Together, the stain should be completely removed from the carpet. Make sure to rinse the stain site.
Will Baking Soda Remove Red Wine from Carpet?
When using baking soda, you will first want to fill a bowl with ½ cup warm water and another half cup of baking soda. Mix the baking soda into a paste. Using a toothbrush, gently apply the paste over the red wine stain. Make sure the paste liberally covers the stain and let the paste dry. After the paste is dry, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the dried paste.
Why Does White Wine Remove Red Wine Stains
You can also combat a red wine stain with white wine. Pour a cup of white wine over the top of the red wine stain. The white wine will help make the red wine stain disappear. Leave the white wine over the top of the stain for about 30 minutes or longer. Use water to rinse the site as before.
