Even water spills on your carpets can leave noticeable spots on the surface, though water is a common ingredient and is in most cleaning projects. Should a water spill form a stain, it is because of the high volumes of minerals in hard water creating the stain and/or the dirt and debris below the surface have risen and become more compacted in that area. The chances of it becoming more obvious increases and potentially evolving into water damage to the subfloor and even contribute to mold growth rises the longer the water lingers. You should promptly use a dry cloth, towel, or paper towels to blot out as much water as possible as prevention is always best and when the spills happen. When the actual water stains become a problem, we at Carpet Care 2000 would like to offer some recommendations.
Carpet Cleaner Solution to Remove Water Spots
Combine about a cup of water with ¼ teaspoon of a mild dish soap to start in an empty squirt bottle. Before using, be sure to allow the soap to completely absorb into the water. To combat moisture, dirt, and other tough substances, this mixture is frequently used due to its powerful effectiveness.
How Do You Get Rid of Hard Water Stains on Carpet?
Make certain it is only lightly misted and not too wet as you spray the solution onto a clean cloth. To prevent it from occurring on the carpets, avoid oversaturation on the cloth. Too much water can lead to water damage and mold growth, as mentioned. With gentle and quick movements, blot the water stain with your treated cloth. Until the dirt and debris are broken up, continue to blot. Again, avoid oversaturation, but the dirt is loose, rinse out the cloth and treat it with the same solution. Avoid scrubbing and rubbing the area as it will only spread the filth out further and is push it deeper into the carpet’s fibers to prevent worsening the spot. Until dirt is lifted, repeat as needed. To blot in between applications to prevent the area from getting too wet, have a clean, dry cloth or paper towels if you need it. Rinse out the solution until you are sure there are no residues, after the spot is dissolved, use a clean cloth, damp with pure water. If necessary, do not over saturate and use a dry cloth in between. By first using dry cloth or paper towels to absorb as much excess moisture as possible, you will want to expedite the drying. Place a clean, dry towel over the top of the treated area and then place heavy objects to weigh it done, let it set over night. Generously sprinkle baking soda to the area and leave it for 2-3 hours. This helps dry out any lingering moisture and neutralize any developing odors. Vacuum the particles well by going over it slowly and in multiple directions after the allotted time is up.
