When you are caring for your home, one of the areas that seem to take the most wear and tear are the carpets. They are walked on by everyone that is coming and going and many times those people drop items. They can also walk in substances stuck to their shoes that can be left behind on the carpet. You may also have some little ones that eat and walk around with their snacks and food. These sticky messes can end up stuck in the fibers of the carpet.

If you find that you have a sticky mess on the carpet, Carpet Care 2000 has a list of ideas that you can try to remove the sticky residue.

Using Ice Cubes to Remove Gum and Sticky Candy from Carpet: If you find a piece of chewed up gum or a sticky fruit snack on the carpet that is stuck to the fibers, you can use ice to try and remove it. Go to the freezer and get a bag full of ice cubes and seal it tight. Let the ice set on the sticky gum or snack until it is hard to the touch. This can take several minutes so be patient because the harder it is, the easier it will be to remove. Take a tool like a butter knife to scrape away the hardened substance. It will break off rather than pull and get stickier. This will remove the majority of the mess with not too much fuss.

Use Peanut Butter to Remove Old Gum or Sticky Candy from Carpet: If you have ever had a child wake up and felt a wad of gum in their hair the first thing most moms run for is the peanut butter. You get a big scoop and start working it into the hair and slowly it breaks up the gum and it can now be combed out. The same concept works on your carpets too. You can use peanut butter, olive oil or any other oil to get the gum or sticky candy to break down. Be sure to color test the oil first in an inconspicuous area of the carpet. A huge negative to this method is you have to follow up the gum removal with carpet cleaning to be sure that the oil is fully removed from the carpet as well.
